Mixie
Newbie here, be gentle... I have a 1996 R1100RSL, original owner, rarely needed to wrench the bike -- what a difference from my Aprilia... Anyhow, I hit a lose manhole cover in a right turn, two people, hit the center stand hard (dumb luck rather than skill, somehow managed to avoid a crash). Spring flew off, bent the spring attachment plate. Had to limp home with duck tape holding it all together. Once home, straightened that plate, took all hardware off, cleaned, greased and tried to reassemble. No luck, either trying from the right or the left, I never seem to get the whole thing lined up. Two possibilities: the center stand itself is bent (is that possible, it is such a massive piece of metal!) or there is technique to reassemble I don't know. The center doesn't look bent, but I have no point of reference. My question then: is there a trick to put the center stand back on the bike? Or it should be so easy, the center stand must be bent. If bent, is there an after market center stand? Thank you in advance for any advice. Link to comment

Do you have all the mounting brackets back in the correct location? If not it probably won’t line up correctly.. Have you tried loosening the mounting bracket bolts slightly until it is all re-assembled & all lined up? You might have something bent so can you re-assemble the bolt & pivot bushings through the center stand holes with the stand OFF THE BIKE? I would think if you can line the bushings & bolt up through the center stand with it off the bike it should fit with it on the bike also.. Hopefully just loosening the bracket bolts will be enough to allow assembly.. Twisty Link to comment
Mixie
I think I have all the parts, but they don't match the drawing from Bike Bandit: http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/bmw-motorcycle-r1100rs-1996/o/m204 I have two guide pins (#10) one for each side. Also my spacers (#2) look thinner than those on the drawing. Without the center stand, all parts fit no problem. If I insert the left guide pin, then the center stand, then try to fit the right guide pin it won't go in, even with grease and a little tapping. Same if starting from the right. Is there a different technique? Should it go in easy? Or perhaps the stand is bent... Link to comment
