awagnon Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I'm replacing the clutch on my -02 RT (along with tranny input shaft). The shop manual says to tighten the bolts which hold the flywheel/clutch housing to the drive shaft as follows: Tightening torque: Clutch housing to crankshaft (threads lightly oiled) Initial torque ...... 40 Nm Tightening angle......32 degrees How critical is this for those of us who don't have a wrench with an angle gauge or protractor on it? Is there an equivalent second torque one could use instead of 32 degrees, or do you just "eye ball it"?

Therefore 32° is j-u-s-t a wee bit above ½ hex.. Or to put it another way ½ hex + a little.. That is what I use anyhow.. Twisty
awagnon Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 Wow, Twisty, that was fast. Thanks for the advice. It sounds like a good solution.
ShovelStrokeEd Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 +1, 1/2 a flat plus a grunt. Twisty, you spend too much time in front of the 'puter. You beat me to the punch again.
Ken H. Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I don't know... This is one of the (few) places where I do bother to get out and rig up the angle gauge. There's a reason BMW specified such an odd and precise spec...
