r77toy
I got some painted lids, what's the best way to strip before repainting another color, or should I just paint over the original color? Link to comment
realshelby
If the paint is in good condition, not peeling or chunks coming off don't remove it. It is easier to sand, primer, and paint over the old. Look closely at the paint. Does it show the grain of the original plastic? If so it was not sanded properly and the grain will likely return on repaint and in that case stripping it may be warranted. If no grain then go ahead. Link to comment
T__
If you are going to paint over the old paint (no problem if in good condition on a good substrate) be sure to seal the old paint before spraying over it.. That will help adhesion,, prevent bleed through,, help if the new & old paint don’t get along chemical wise,, & prevent problems down the road.. With the current cost of paint,, activator,, reducer,, primer,, etc you really only want to do it once.. Twisty Link to comment
