New to the BMW world

Well, I've had my BMW R110011R since July and finally joined this forum.

I bought it from my dad (with a great family discount thumbsup.gif). He's been a member of this forum for quit a while now. He put 101k miles on it before I got it. I've put 11k on it. I ride almost everyday to work, about 80 miles round trip. Coldest day to ride so far was 12F.

I've taken it on 1 weekend trip and a few day trips. My longest day was 400 miles.

The most noticable difference on this bike is that at the end of the 400 miles, I could have gotten back on and kept going. On my previous bike I was wore out by the end of the day. And, I don't think I ever put more than 300 miles on it in one day.

I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of months now, and have enjoyed reading the ride tales and learning about my bike from other discussions. Maybe some day I'll have some benificial knowledge to add as well. Until then, I'll soak in all the knowledge I can.

Hi Ralph and welcome to the board. Make like a sponge and soak us up!! Your coldest ride was 12 degrees? My best is 16 degrees at Newcombs Ranch last year here in SoCal of all places. Either way that is pretty darn cool to be on 2 wheels.

Nice of him to break it in for you.

As you know, we don't discuss religion, politics, oil or oil filters here. lmao.gif Oh wait a minute, that was redundant because oil and oil filters are a religion here. dopeslap.gif

Looking forward to some trip reports from you.

Hi Ralph,

Welcome. In addition to an old GS, I also have an R1100R, 1999 model with 55K miles on it. I have it in California, so it has been getting used more than my Alaska bikes, and I use it for long distance touring just fine. It does fairly well in the twisties, too. Overall, a really nice versatile bike I'm glad to have. BTW, my wife rides a 1994 Magna that she's very happy with as well.

take care,

Dave

Thanks to all you guys for the welcome. I look forward to a long life of BMW riding.

Dad is riding an '06 Wee Strom. He wanted something to ride on dirt rodes and explore some of the Fire roads in Arkansas.

Yeah, he broke it in nice for me.

Currently all I do is the preventative maintainance stuff, nothing to fix,. . . . . yet. smile.gif

Yes, I really like this bike. The weekend trip I took was to Arkansas, so we saw plenty of twisties. It did really well. It was shortly after I got it, so I didn't push it. This is an anual trip I take with a few guys every summer. Now that I am more familiar with this bike, I'll see what it can really do.

I love my Magna, but it was time to move on. Mine is an '87, aka Supermagna. I'd like to keep it in the garage, but I just can't keep extra bikes around that won't get ridden.
