JerryMather
Anyone ever use one of their standard front stands to lift the front end up to change their tire? If so, can use use it along with the center stand or do you need their rear stand also? Pitbull Link to comment
ericfoerster
Jerry, I use my Gixxer stand on the K12 and I don't need anything in back. It stands up on its own when you raise the front. Just don't rock the bike a bunch and you'll be OK. Edit: Jerry the front of my lift is the fork lift style. It raises the bike from the bottom of the fork, not on the side in the axle. sgendler
NEVER lift a bike on just the front wheel - the pivoting steerer WILL eventually cause the bike to fall over, though the center stand should be sufficient for stabilizing the bike, since the rear end will no longer be able to lean in either direction. My only concern would be that on some bikes, the rear wheel is just barely off the ground, and lifting the front end could put the back tire down and lift the center stand off the ground, but that seems unlikely. I wound up under my first mille when I forgot the rear stand and had it up on just the front. As it went over, I could only think to throw my body under it to protect it (which did work, though it took me the better part of 30 minutes to get out from under it and another 2 hours to figure out how to get it back up without the front wheel on it and without damaging the bodywork).
