James_H
I was checking the valve adjustment on my 2000 R1100RT and after pulling the right valve cover off I noticed a black plastic attachment (not really attached but fit around the push rod area) on the lower right while I was looking at the engine head. If pulls off easily and goes back on easily and seems to be meant to be there. Anyone know what its for? I have looked and it does not show up on the engine breakdown drawings. Thanks. Jim And yes, I know a picture would help. I'll try and get one tonight. Link to comment
Jim VonBaden
It is a noise damper for the valves. Many people lose/remove it. Jim Link to comment

Ken H.
It is a noise damper for the valves. Many people lose/remove it. Jim That's one theory, another I have heard is that it is to aid in oil flow back to the return passage. Link to comment

Well in the parts manual it’s called a (rubber buffer) & in one of my service manuals it’s called a (rubber dampener) so that would assume it dampens something (probably the lower cyl head casting or rocker cover).. My guess would to suppress either radiated valve noise or radiated combustion knock.. We use a lot of those things in the automotive field & we call them stuffers,, usually used to dampen flat covers or dampen flat unsupported thin castings.. Twisty Link to comment
