Crazy_Canuck
Well the tale begins with a hearty dinner at Hodels in Bakersfield. (sorry no pic) The food was good and the company was better. The next day we set off for Beatty. Got up early in the morning to meet at Starbucks (7:00am) only to find Tank...where was everyone else I asked myself? Well they all wimped out!!! You wimps (you know who you are) As Tank and I departed we bumped into 2 new members running a little late named Frank and George. After topping off the 4 of us headed to 178, or least tried to...it was rush hour and to top that off it was SUPER foggy!!! We got seperated a couple times and made a couple wrong turns but finally managed to get on 178 and then out of town. Once we hit the city limits the sky opened up and it was super clear...Yee Hah. We were supposed to meet Mr Duck and Corny (Cornelis) at 10:00am in Inyokern and we left Bakersfield almost 1 hour late but we made good time over the mountains and managed to get there early. We then stopped for for a late breakfast up the road at Ranch Cafe (I think) in Olancha where we met up with Heck and his lovely wife. We hit the road once again and the view of the snow covered mountains on 395 was awesome The pic below is Mr Duck and Corny hooning it! As we started to head east across 168 we started to see some snow. Then we came across this little one lane pass which was a little slick...I think Tank enjoyed it? As we continued on there seemed to be more and more snow! It was cool (parden my pun) and more snow. You can guess who is hooning it ahead of me can't you? What we just rode through... to be continued... Link to comment
Crazy_Canuck
Part 2 After a great days ride we arrived in the lovely town of Beatty at around 4:00pm. Everyone congregated around the parking lot of the Exchange club to BS about how fast they they rode to Beatty...cough cough Richard cough cough! It got a little chilly and so everyone migrated on over to the Sourdough Saloon to BS some more and warm up. The next day I headed out with Mr Duck, Corny, Tank and a couple of new comers, one who was named Allen and his friend whos name slips my memory right now. (it sucks getting old) The first stop was Dauntes View (spelling?) Yours truly Panaramic shot from Dauntes View While we were up there enjoying the view we were wondering what happened to our new friends Allen and friend (and new to the board)? They were with us on the last leg up to Dauntes view? Well when we rode back down we came across them on the side of the rode, apparently Allen low sided on his Vstar. Thankfully he was OK with only some bumps and bruises. Whew The fender was bent up too much and was rubbing on the tire so it had to be removed.I think Allen has a new board name...how does Crash sound? Tank wanted to check out the 5 star Furnace Creek Inn and so we did just that. View from the Lobby...nice!! Did you know it had a huge garden? I didn't and let me tell you I thought is was pretty nice. See for yourself. From there we topped off the gas tanks in furnace creek ranch and headed over to Ubehebe crater. According to the sign it erupted approx 2000 years ago. The road for the last mile to the crater was CRAP!! Anyone else want to comment on it? Our last stop of the day was good ole Scotty's Castle. I guess it really wasn't Scottys castle at all, he was just a good BS'er. Maybe we should call it "Richard's Castle"? We saw this little fellow down near the parking lot...he was not shy thats for sure. after another great days ride with good friends we rested in the Sourdough Saloon for a great Rib-eye steak dinner. Kudos to Stubble and Jamie for helping organise it!!!! We couldnt have done it without you. On a side note I did find the locals of Beatty very interesting to say the least. Like this guy, we saw him every night in the saloon. and so my DVD tale ends. I hope you enjoyed it? Rob Link to comment

Bill_Walker
Wow, 168 sure looks a lot different than it did during the pre-run! Your photo after the pass (with the 35 mph sign) is near where Jamie, Carl and I turned around to do it again. Though it looks quite a bit like it did for DVD '05! Link to comment
