bowcop
Have any of you ever mounted an extra light on the top case for added visability? I was thinking of getting one of these and wire it up. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Produ...0003037/c-10101 Link to comment

Ken H.
I did it for several people on the R1100RT, R1150RT top cases. I would suspect it would be similar on the R1200RT. Link to comment

Silver Surfer/AKAButters
I think that is a great idea. My Givi has an integral brake light. I really like having the added conspicuity. Link to comment
Ken H.
Details would be nice, but I'd rather have you do it for me It's only about 9 hours from my place to yours. This sounds like a great idea. Here's a couple of pics of ones I did on the 1150. I suspect something similar could be worked out for the 1200 cases. Sure! Come on over, we'll figure it out! Link to comment
bowcop
Ken, What is that plug on the bottom? Can you explain how you wired it up? TIA Tim Link to comment
finallyabeemer
A couple sources for much more attractive LED lights: http://www.vehiclelight.com/ledstli.html http://www.v-sales.com/stop_lamps_third_brake_lights.htm Link to comment
Ken H.
The two prong plug is added sticking out of the bottom of the top case that matches up with the socket installed in case's rack. That way the case is lift-off-able as always without having to (or forget to) unplug a connector or anything. I'm not sure if this approach would work on the two different R1200RT top cases or not. I've yet to look at one close enough to see if there is a mating surface that could be adapted. Link to comment
bowcop
That is awesome! Is is just a standard house plug? Also, did you just tap into the existing brake light wires? Link to comment
Ken H.
That is awesome! Is is just a standard house plug?Oh man, now your going to make me go find the part numbers... No the plug/socket is an industrial part, the socket sits in a 1/2" hole. did you just tap into the existing brake light wires?Yes. Link to comment
kcscout
Any problems with dirt getting into the female connector? If it is a house jack, I guess that could be easily fixed with one of these: Link to comment
bowcop
Thanks Ken!.......also if it not to much trouble, can you provide the model of led you used? Thanks! Tim Link to comment

Ken H.
Thanks Ken!.......also if it not to much trouble, can you provide the model of led you used OK, found it all… The socket and plugs are CHICH-JONES part numbers P302AB & S302AB. Go here and click on the photos of the first two listed items - Electronics Plus The LED array is Custom Dynamics’ Radiantz Flexible LED, their part # 4000-11 (for 11”). Although they make a bunch of different lengths - Custom Dynamics ISFA the water in the socket subject, the socket is open on the back, and when I epoxy them in place I make sure I don’t block it so any water harmlessly goes through. It’s so small anyway, not much can get it. And mounted in the plastic rack too boot. There is a whole thread around here somewhere where I documented with pictures the entire thing, but I can’t find it at the moment. Might be older than the 3-yr. search limit. It’s been a couple of years since I did any of these since the 1150 has been discontinued and all. Link to comment

BMKrider
On a modern CAN bus wired bike (R1200RT etc) where would you draw the power from to power the extra brake light without interferring with the sensitive controller? The K1200GT is I suspect even more of a problem as it on uses one bulb/filament for both the rear light and brake light? I'd love to do it and have a Givi top case that will receive an extra rear light but I haven't been able to figure out how. Link to comment

The K1200GT is I suspect even more of a problem as it on uses one bulb/filament for both the rear light and brake light? The R1200RT uses the single filament trick too. You won't create an issue with the controller, the ZFE module, but getting the extra lights/LEDs to behave how you want to can be a bit trickier. If it is traditional single filament bulb (in your Givi) just wire it in. The ZFE will control it at 1/2 brightness for taillight and full brightness for brake just like the OEM bulb. If you are adding LEDs they can some times flicker when in taillight only (brake not engaged) from the square wave being sent to them. In which case I use a dampened mechanical relay circuit to trigger the aux. light. Link to comment
kiwiaudio
Thanks Ken, thats the best auxillary brake setup I've seen. Well done lad ! Link to comment

Ken H.
Not that I've heard. Since the R1200RT and its two cases came out I've been kind of interested to see if a similar thing to what I developed for the 1150RT could be done for the 1200RT, but nobody seems willing to let me 'experiment' on their nice shinny new bike. Go figure! Link to comment
Fightingpiper
I believe I used a 3 prong for my givi V46 on my 2006RT fitted with a kninght Riderz LED's and it works fine. Works as running and brake light. Flashes 3 times and then goes solid bright. I will try and get some pics up tonight..... Link to comment

curlesw
Hey, thanks for posting the pics and video. Was the install fairly easy? Any tips or tricks. I have the large case for the 1200RT and want to add some type of light to the top...this helps quite a bit. Wayne Link to comment
beemerFROG
Looks great! Where did you get the electrical hook up between the case mount and the case that allow them to hook up when mounted? I've got a Givi E450 and want to add additional lights behind the two side blank reflecters to act as additional turn signals. I need to bring extra wires into the box but want them to be able to disconnect easily. Link to comment
Fightingpiper
Beemerfrog, I ordered it from Electonics Plus where Ken referenced above. I think I still have an extra around here. I think I ordered plugs just in case but I'll have to search for it. If I find it you can have it. Curlesw, It was fairly straight forward install. Tools I used was a Dremel for the holes and a soldering iron for the wires to the plugs. Link to comment
beemerFROG
Wow that's great. I'll take a look at there site. Link to comment
