Matts_12GS
Hi everyone, I'm trying to do a baseline on the 96 R11RSL and want to change all the fluids/filters and do a TBS and plugs, valves etc. Can someone shoot me a set of capacities for: engine oil w/filter change transmission oil change FD oil change valve clearances I/E I've got a manual on the way, but want it done quickly... Thanks! Link to comment
Bill Dennes
Buy 4 quarts of oil for the oil and filter change, but don't just dump it all in. Start with 3 and run it and measure it, then fill it. Remember that if you fill the oil to the middle of the sight glass and then go run hard on the highway you're going to blow a lot of that oil into the airbox. Also, don't forget to fill the filter with new oil before you install it. It takes just over one quart of gear oil to do the tranny and FD, so buy 2. You can then buy just one for the next two or three changes. Oil loss is trivial when adjusting valves. Check when you're done and maybe use just a little more of that 4th quart. Link to comment
ShovelStrokeEd
Oil capacity, wi filter, 3.8l = 4 quarts and don't worry about any slight overfill. Tranny - 800 cc, just fill till it spills out the filler hole which is also the level indicator. FD - 250 cc and ditto on the fill method. Intake 0.006", exhaust 0.012". There are some meteric numbers like 0.15 and 0.3 mm but I never use 'em. Link to comment

ltljohn
Hey Matt, what kinda oil you gonna use? Slippery! I prefer the extra slippery myself it lasts longer and shows up better in the sight glass. Link to comment
flars
"extra slippery " - be very careful with this stuff. You cannot get a good reading on the oil level if the oil is too slippery. It is also known to damage the air filter, and possibly cause the valves to slip. Link to comment
