Well ....... I finally picked up my KRS from the dealer yesterday having just completed all the repairs to it due to that falling tree limb up at Randy's place in Torrey last Sept.

This is Ride Planning - not the Gear sub-forum, but just thought I'd mention that you guys convinced me buying Gerbings (or S&W, or Powerlet, or Widder (let's not start a debate) is a good thing for this trip! A proactive expense can avoid major issues (read: cold weather safety) so I'll visit the BMW dealer this week for fit checks and probable purchase of heated jacket liner and gloves.

 

My gear as tested Saturday (1st Day of Winter) is OK down to 40*, but likely not below that for an extended time. I have a Widder vest but the fit isn't good and no arms protection. I read in other threads where some of you likewise are getting your gear ready. My stuff currently consists of base layers plus just purchased Alpinestars Drystar pants with furnished liner zipped in, Frank Thomas winter jacket with furnished liner zipped in (replacing with heated liner), Oxtar Matrix boots with ski socks (optional polypro liners) and deerskin gloves with silk liners and heated grips. OK down to 40*, but 20-30* range (or lower)? I don't think so. BTW, don't those heated pant liners and socks get a little skanky on tour unless you wash 'em every night?

I'm still in the Maybe camp, I haven't made any arrangements but I'll probably be there somehow.

And Jamie, get your butt to DV. If you want a traveling partner there are plenty of folks from your neck of the woods (myself included) who'd be glad to tag along. At this point I'm tentatively planning a two-day ride out, involving a run down the coast. But I'm open to suggestions. Still not sure if I want to do that on the way out, back, or both. And Beagler mentioned to me that he & a couple others (River City Beemers folks I think) are going via the mountain route, weather permitting. You might give him a yell.
