jacksonwr
Has anyone found a good tank bag that uses the r1200rt "mounting rails"? I think the price that BMW is asking for theirs is a bit excessive. Thanks Link to comment
DaveRT
I use the larger tourtech. works fine for me. the inner bag is 100% waterproof. I carry a lot of electronics in the bag and they don't like water. Next time I would go for the smaller tourtech bag. http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/show.l...140E9PUo3AD7F69 http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/show.l...140E9PUo3AD7F69 The larger bag was $308 when I bought it. They have gone up in price. Link to comment
bobbybob
I use the smaller Touratech, and while it is contoured to fit the curve of the tank, the Touratech's do not actually snap into the rails the way the BMW bag does. It uses a velcroed connector on both ends, but works very well. I had the BMW bag at first but sold it and got this one...much better. Link to comment
Fajah
I bought a really banged up BMW bag on ebay for $118 and plan on putting a bag of my choice on the bracket. I was not impressed with the BMW bag. The snap on and off feature was neat. So, we will see, looking at one of the 15 Liter hardtop teardrop Marsee bags. By the time I am done, it will end up costing what the BMW bag cost but, I hope to have a bag I like. Link to comment

bimmers
I have a Marsee bag and am happy with it. It is fastened with straps and it is a little of a pain when filling up but no big deal. h Link to comment
Fajah
Ok - pictures Beat up BMW tank bag - throw away from ebay $118 Slightly use - like new - 15L Marsee Teardrop Hardtop- Craig's list Atlanta $80 I cut away the old BMW bag to get to the mounting plate. I used the zip on portion of the Marsee - by mounting it, I can look for a 10L deal and have a smaller bag option at times. Tank bag cut away from the mounting bracket Close up of screw top Bracket with tank bag completely removed Used pink nail polish and bamboo scewer to mark Marsee mount with screw pattern in bracket. Burned holes in nylon mount with red hot nail Final Image Link to comment
jacksonwr
Interesting solution. It would be interesting to get one of those base plates to clone. I'm sure it could be used to mount lots of things. What does the latching mechanism look like? I'm almost tempted to get photos of one at the dealer. Do you think that would be too obvious? JMR
John- Nice project and nice job. Would really like to see how it does when tank-mounted if you've got pics of that.....thanks. Link to comment

I think you should do just that...think of the possibilities besides mounting a tank bag: vid/cam-- gps-- fuzzbuster-- xm radio-- etc. Clone away! Link to comment

Fajah
Just got home and here is picture of tank on bike. My be a bit on the tall side, I am 6'7" and it will work fine for me. In full lock the handlebars touch, happened on other bag also. A soft bag might be better for the height issue. Link to comment
