R67
Hello, Just bought an '02 R1150RT, and while it has the antenna and speakers, the prev owner didn't get the stock radio, so looking for something to play some tunes. Has anyone had any luck trying something like the Marine Boss Audio MR1600W? It plays MP3 CD's, and has a wired remote to control volume and a few other features. I can already plug an iPod (or other device) into my old Chatterbox, but sometimes prefer to listen to speakers when touring through the twisties at slower speeds. Appreciate any input, I'm sure someone here has been through all this before! Cheers, Nathan Link to comment
Motorrad4fun
First of all welcome to the board, congrats on your new acquisition I do not have lots of input on the radio,so best of luck with that.... Link to comment
Dave_in_TX
I don't have any experience with the Boss Audio but I did install a Pioneer automotive stereo receiver in my 07 RT and added a Pioneer marine remote. The remote is weatherproof while the receiver is well protected in the radio/glove compartment. I'm happy with the results. Link to comment
Darren
Dont bother with fitting an audio system to the speakers, at any speed over 50mph, the sound quality is poor. its like having a car stereo on with the windows open, it just becomes a noise. Stick with helmet speakers, the sound is better, and it is less anti-social having the music to yourself Darren Link to comment

Chugger
On long trips it's nice to mix things up ER6'S are great but it's easy to zone out of your environment Helmet speakers sound OK - Like an AM radio Helmet speakers and balanced fairing speakers sound much better. BTW with face shield up of course. Link to comment
scottcon
I struggled with putting an aftermarket radio on my rt as well. After alot of research and reading I found that a marine radio will work fine. However, there is a general consensus on this board that the radio cannot be heard above around 50mpg. I got a pair of etymotic er6 and never looked back. I simply love them. It is great to hear quality sound at a low level instead of the blare of radio speakers at high speed. I had a goldwing with front AND rear speakers and could not hear them clearly at 70 mph. The RT just has Two. Hope this helps. Harry Link to comment

R67
Hi, Thanks for all the feedback. Picked up a marine receiver with wired remote on ebay for 100. Not too far out of pocket if it goes horribly wrong Turns out the MR1600W I was looking at does not play MP3 CD's, but has an input jack that they said was 'MP3 compatible', hate when people play with words to rip people off. Ended up getting an Pyle PLCD18MRMP, maybe a 'pyle' of something else, I'll post back when it's installed! As mentioned, this is for low mph cruising, I agree anything over 50 mph would be pointless. My first day off since getting the bike and it's pouring, go figure Cheers, Nathan Link to comment
