Wyn
Had my 1st day at Motosports of Tampa. Great store, good folks. The sales manager and other sales folks were great. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Didn't sell anything but it was an enlightening day. Big learning curve to deal with but it will come. I felt very comfortable talking with potentials about the ST 1300, Goldwings and V Stroms. Felt somewhat lost with sport bikes and cruisers. Apparently cruisers are the largest persentage of sales. At least here in Florida. Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki are the brand and guite the machines too. I've been humbled and taken off elite status. Hey, if anybody knows anyone in the Bay area looking for a new or used metric bike, "Please!" send them my way. I'll do the best deal possible and treat em like family. Thanks to all who responded to the "Working for the otherside" thread. Your all like family to me. Link to comment
Rinkydink
Hey if it was easy we'd all be doing it. That is to say getting to work around something we truely love instead of the ho-hum existences we call our real jobs. Good luck to you. Link to comment
notacop
Gotta admit going into the local Power sport shop that there are all sorts of temptations from many different brands. I still get and keep BMW's 'cus of the folks I meet at BMW rallies and the one's I met through the MOA annonomous book. The Guzzi folks at the rallies have always been pleasant and friendly too. I'd imagine that this is universally true with the whatever brand congregates. There doesn't seem to be any real "BAD" motorcycles made now. Some may be a bit more short lived than others but ya don't find many 'Yugo' bikes out there. Happy selling! May the economy grow and allow folks all sorts of disposable income to stuff in your hands. We need to get all these solo drivers out of their cars an on to motorcycles! Link to comment

Last time I worked on my BMW it is also "METRIC". That term only works when relating to American bikes. The HD guys use "METRIC" in a disparaging tone, i.e. “metric junk” to describe any foreign make. This of course includes Hondas made in Ohio. You may consider not using “Metric” in your sales pitch; it may have a negative effect on the customer. Especially when pushing a cruiser type bike, he/she may not need to be reminded that the bike is not a HD. Hope this helps in your new career. Just my opinion. Cheers Steve Link to comment
motoguy128
I believe most of the Vulcans are made in Nebraska too along with ATV's. I think Kawasaki in particular has a great line-up form top to bottom in all categories. IF I won the lottery... I'd buy the local Kawi dealer myself. Link to comment
velomoto
So have you had a chance to take out the ST and new Connie? You might suggest the dealership have you take home a different bike each week so you can get to know the product! Having the opportunity to ride all those bikes could become very expensive! Kinda like trying to diet while working in a candy shop... If you get a chance, tell Mr. Honda he needs to ship some of those Trans Alps stateside - but he better act quickly as the new 800 & 650 GS are looking pretty tempting! Link to comment
kcscout
Congrats on the new job Wyn. So gives us the inside scoop - do sales people get deep discounts on parts, accessories and bikes? Link to comment

Let us not forget that some riders of the more classic Harleys are also down on the V-Rod because it uses a "metric engine" designed largely by Porsche! Link to comment
Matts_12GS
At least there's none of that mentality here... Link to comment
soboy
Best of luck to you - those are 3 fine lines you are selling. I have owned 1 Kawasaki, 2 Suzukis and 5 Honda motorcycles - enjoyed every one of them, never had one single problem with any of them. I am especially impressed with Suzuki's engineering prowess - in addition to my small stable of 5 bikes, I am taking care of a friend's 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 for a while: if you get a chance, I highly recommend you try one - in 35 years of riding and driving, nothing I have ever ridden or driven prepared me for the mind boggling acceleration of a liter class sportbike. Totally agree, however, I alway thought that Suzuki used more parts in their assemblies than necessary. Regrdless, they always seemed to hold togehter okay. Good luck in your new job. Link to comment
