Returning from LAX...unbelievable!

Went to LAX yesterday to get the isster-in-law. took i hour to get there. Left at 1630, got to LAX at 1730. No problem!

Went back to the 405 cus it looked ok from the 105. Got back up before we got to Jefferson. I finally got off at Culver and wended my way over to the 10 again and got off in Down town and took surface streets back to Pasadena.

Took 2 hours to get home.

What I noticed about traffic at that time of day is that each and every street and fwy was completely impacted. East bound-west bound full to the gills.

Now how is it that so many folks live in the west side and work on the east side and vicey versey. Ya gotta be a complete mental turd to drive that many miles from home. Everyday in thet gaunlet would drive me completely berkers!

I live 12 miles from work and aspire to no more palatial an abode than what I have. After all, in the 37 years I've owned my home the neighbors "buying up" have made my investment multiply almost exponentially.

What makes folks want to give up a perfectly good home for one...further out...boggles the mind.

Am I the only sane person that pays almost single digit taxes and lives in a multihundred thousand house?

I told the wife that if only 30% of the folks massing on the fwy would switch to scooters and motorcycles we would not have the slow hour traffic we have now.

I love lane splitting! I just can't do it in the cage. An evening going to LAX and back certainly does not improve my appreciation of my fellow man! dopeslap.gif

Mods; careful, Stan could get death threats and stuff for that kind of provocative comment .... wink.gif

I got my Beemer in direct response to the traffic; I just couldn't take the San Diego commute any more. However, my new commute north from Oceanside to Irvine (i.e. north to Orange County) is unbelievably great. (Used to be even better before the office relocated from Aliso Viejo; oh well). 22 miles of it is through Camp Pendleton at speeds between 65mph and 95mph (sorry LEO's, at 85MPH I'm at risk of being rear ended). Getting on the freeway at the Irvine end on I5 south during rush hour is totally nuts though. No one yields, no one signals, they are tailgating, there are about 7 lanes of traffic south, and the OC nuts are bouncing around between lanes like ping pong balls at high speed.

Anyhow, I've engineered a "work at home" job whenever I want to start that process, probably by moving out of state and paying cash for a house. As soon as the kids are out of college (and my house), my commute will end. But for now, I've got THE choice freeway commute of Southern California.

Went back to the 405...

In the Inland Empire we referred to it as the 4 or 5 because going there would usually take 4 or 5 hours.....

You drove from LAX to Pasadena at 5:30PM? Well, there's your problem.

Ya but, If the plane comes in at 1650 Ya gotta go. I do wish the in-laws and outlaws would get the shuttle. We use it to avoid the drive ourselves.

What amazes me is the fact that so many folks seem to live on the "wrong" side of their commute. Can't the Irvine worker find a home in Irvine and save the commute? Etc...

The Tons of fuel used and emmisions created is just really so dumb. We need to save the fossil fuel we have so we can go to Torrey next year. Not piss it away going slow on the FWY! dopeslap.gif

well, I live 14.5 miles from my work, and I live on the westside and work downtown. Seems to me that you just got lucky with regard to the fact that your 12 miles happen to be less traffic-infested than ours. Fundamentally, given the nature of the housing market in LA and the location of affordable rentals, many of us have not a lot of choice in the matter, especially if we ren't inclined to pick up and move our lives in order to accomodate a job change or relocation. Also, for those folks who like to spend time at the water, living on the eastside really isn't so pleasant. Not only is it 10-20 degrees warmer out there all summer long, but the traffic (and parking!) associated with getting to the beach makes an eastside residence a not too pleasant experience. In my case, I'm considering a move to Long Beach and commuting via the metro in order to stay affordably close to the water and keep my commute relatively stress-free.

It is worth pointing out, however, that I commute by bicycle right now and I consistently beat the buses that run up Wilshire. I usually pass the first one by the time I get to the 405, and other than some back and forth psses through beverly hils, I'll stay in front of that bus the rest of the way to dontown - on a bicycle. Similarly, my bicycle commute take about 58 minutes and riding home by motorcycle on surface streets instead of the freeway took 46 minutes between the traffic lights and the unsplittably dense traffic. The freeway would have been about 35-40 minutes at that tme of day, 25-30 if I felt like being really aggressive about my splittiing. So my bicycle is basically only half as fast as a motorcycle during commute hours, and I get to burn a good number of calories to boot (my waist has shrunk from 39"-40" to a comfy 36")

It's not often I agree with Notacop, but this time he's right on. I've started on rides in the past where I've stopped for gas at the Green River exit on the 91 at 5:30 in the morning heading towards Vegas. I recall all five lanes going the other way (towards LA) already packed. Sheesh!

My commute is pretty good. Grab a cup of coffee and up one flight of stairs and I'm there!

Maybe Notacop and I can celebrate agreeing once in 2007 by meeting for a Latte at Starbucks.

I don't drink no Girlyman Latte.

I will however have dinner with you in Deming and wonder where all the other crazies are. Just keep you hand off the relays and you may get there. lmao.gif

Hey! That's not funny. I just put in another one this past w/e.

I have another theory. A while back (before I started having electrical problems), I installed front Run'n lights. The process required adding a new wire from the turn signal to the parking light. Well, as I was returning from Manchester and my load relief relay had just blown, I noticed that one of those wires was draped loosely behind the oil cooler. I can't help but think that the air stream behind the oil cooler is pretty warm and that can't be good for a small diameter electrical wire. I promptly duct taped it above the cooler. Deming will be a good test.

See you in Deming thumbsup.gif

What I really like was that Warren Buffet came out in public saying the property tax system in California is a joke and was quickly shunned by Arnold.
