elkroeger Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 I've seen where people re-wire the power to their ABS unit, because the 1100 bikes are notorious for having a low voltage fault. I was thinking about the possibility of adding a reset switch - where I would just add a button to the power feed. Press and hold the button to cut power to the ABS, let go, and it restarts. What do you ABS and 12volt gurus think? Would I ruin something expensive?
NonComp Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 I can't put my finger on it right now, but I know that there have been thread's on this somewhere. One user put a kill switch inline that he holds down while he starts the bike. The other put in a relay, which delays the ABS startup until after the engine is running. I plan to do something like this myself.

bmwmick Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 BMW Mick wrote it: http://www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/ABS-II_low_voltage_modification/index.shtml Yes, this mod works! I have about 15K fault-free miles since I did my RT. Clive in South Africa has installed a switch in place of my relay. It is a normally closed pushbutton that he uses to reset his ABS when it faults. IF you already have headlamp relays installed, you can use the Load Shed relay (pin#87) to effect the same mod without adding a relay. The only drawback is that the bottom side of the relay base on the Oilheads is a PITA to access. I've done this Load Shed mod to a couple of K1100's and it works well. Mick
NonComp Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Is there any chance of repurposing the ABS reset switch on the dash of an r11r to do this? Is that switch normally open or closed in the un-pressed position? It would be convenient to just hold the button down until the engine is running or to hit is any time to reset on the fly.
