O Godz of all electric,

What type or brand of relays are you'all using in your aux light applications?

With the type of swith that I am planning to use, I need to keep the coil circuit very low.

So where do you recommend that I tap into the harness or should I just use some resistors to design my own low current circuit?

I’ll jump in having recently installed a relay to supply a Centech fuse panel. Centech has a kit model AP-170R that looks pretty good. Of course it did not show up on their web site so I didn’t know they had it when I ordered the Fuse panel. I picked up an auxiliary light relay kit at AutoZone. The kit I used is Blazer model mm510 or 20-3521-4. Decent instruction sheet so you know what terminals are connected to power and ground. Most people ate tapping into the tail light.

I used a Bosch 0 332 011 007 as recommended by r1200gs.info. I would have used a different one (it was tough to find one), but as luck would have it, I got a couple for free. The relay is small and rated for a life that will outlive the bike and me, and seems to work fine. It doesn't have an attachment point for a screw or the like, but it's so small and light that velcro seems to have worked fine. I'd buy one of these again if I didn't have one and if I had time to wait.

With that said, if you want it now, just go down to an auto parts store and ask for a 12v relay that's rated for 30A. I understand wanting one that someone else has used (I did when I first started looking for one), but it's the specs and rating that's more important than the brand or model number.

I used the accessory plug wire to tap into.

Years of experience have lead me to throw away any cheap generic relays that come with stuff and replace with name brand.

Bosch, Hella, Tyco have all served me well. Waytek is my personal favorite source for all things electrical:

Yes, you have to buy in larger quantities as they are a distributor to small scale manufacturers, but the prices are very respectable, and service is great.

Waytek sells good quality stuff. They've been nice enough to wave the minimum quantity for me on several occasions... that said, I was still spending over $100 for the total order.

Yeah, Waytek can get the Bosch relays I used. They were just out of stock when I wanted mine and had a several week backlog. However, one of the distributors (Chief Enterprises) said that you can also get the 0 332 011 007 at http://www.wesgarde.com
