Rotor Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Looking for feedback from those who have experience on their R12RT and a Corbin seat. I've tried Sargeants (loved them on my 1150, not so on the 1200); and, I even had Sargeants modify the stock seat. It originally felt fine and I even did nearly 4000 miles on it during a vacation. Now, it feels as though it has gone soft and is uncomfortable after less than 100 miles. So, I was considering a Corbin. Other seat manufactures are simply too far away for a custom fit. I tried searching for past info on this topic but really couldn't find what I needed. Your views on this application for Corbin are requested.
rogera Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 The Ormond Beach store had just opened so I took a ride over, they were real helpfull considering. I put my old stock seat in my top case put there seat on and it hasn't been off since. As long as you like a seat with a firm pad its great if you like a softer seat you'll probably want to try another seat. I've put about 15k on it so far and it is holding up just fine.
John in VA Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I like my Corbin. Fits me like a glove (if I wore a glove back there), and it doesn't look like a winged tractor seat. The heat will be nice on cold morning commutes this winter. One negative is that Corbin seats add weight to the bike compared to the lightweight stock seats.

I like my winged tractor seat (Russell) and sold my corbin on this forum at a huge loss just to get some relief from a $600.00 mistake. Once again, your milage may vary and everyone has a (differing) opinion.
Rotor Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 Love the seat, but their after the sale, customer service is terrible. I'll try something else next time. 3Putt, Was there a problem with the product they wouldn't correct; and, is that why you'd do business elsewhere next time? To all...thanks for the info. The more you post, the more I have with which to make a decision. Keep them coming!
bojohnson Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I ordered a Corbin for a KLR 650 a few years ago and now have one on my R1200RT. Maybe I'm just lucky, but Corbin quickly filled my orders and both seats fit the bikes well. They are a little hard but do soften up a little bit after using them for a while. They're not actually comfortable (like a soft lounge chair) but I'm never uncomfortable while riding.
jaytee Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Just to get weight on the other side, I have used corbin for 6 seats now, 2 of them custom ride-ins and have received nothign but exemplary service all six times. Whether it was for off-the-shelf black seats, mail-order custom covered seats or the full bang drive-in they have been professional, and service was good-excellent on all occasions. They are a very big company so far as custom seat manufacturers go, and they do a solid job but there will always be those that felt they fell through the cracks. As to the seats, their standard foam is a bit denser htan most. That hard foam, when shaped properly, gives excelletn support over long miles. If you prefer a plusher feel, but want to keep that hard foam longevity, I advise you to get a pattern stiched on the seat. When they do stiching, they insert a small piece of foam backing that is quite soft and makes for a more comfortable initial feel. Have fun! JT

Thanks Anyone put long days on their R12RT one of these seats? Say, 600-1000 miles? If so, were you alright with it; or, was it one of those experiences where you couldn't think of anything but getting off of that bike?
Rotor Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 I did 780 miles, in one day, coming back from the UN this year. Love the seat! I was glad to get home, but could have gone further. As far as the problems I've had with them. My first seat was for my Tiger. I needed a little something special done. I wanted a place to anchor a tank bag strap. I was told no problem and was charged a little extra for it. When I got the seat, the anchor point wasn't there. I was told to send it back, but I'd have to pay shipping both ways (around $40). I said no, just credit me the $10 for the anchor. Nope, all sales are final. We can't give credit. A few years later I need a seat for my RT. I order front, rear and two backrests. $1200. I get the seat and see that with both backrest installed, there isn't much room for the passenger. I called Corbin and want to return one of the backrests. Again, nope, all sales are final. She said this happens all the time and should try and sell it on eBay. Told me the backrest was custom built for my seat and may not fit another. I ended up selling it on eBay for $100 to a guy with a Honda. Won't fit other seats? Right. All that being said. I love my Corbin. I see what you mean!! Just doesn't sound like good business manners. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
Rotor Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 Thanks to all that provided input. I believe I'll ride over and talk to them and see what they have to offer. Once again, thanks to the board members for the assist!
