A local collector of motorcycles, and other things, passed away earlier in the year. I thought some of you might be interested in what some of these old bikes brought. Here's a link to Proxbid .

I'm not very knowledgeable about antique bikes......

What was so special about the 64 BMW R50 ($27,000) ????

Uh, maybe it's value is high because it's one bike you haven't owned? grin.gif

I went out and took a look at them on Friday. It was by far the cleanest and best kept bike in the sale, but in terms of it's collectiblity, I'm not sure. Maybe someone else knows. A lot of those old bikes had sat out in the weather quire a bit and were a little rough, you could tell which ones were his babies.

Check with Tom High at Rennsportmotorrad, link at bottom of this page. He has 3 or 4 of them. I believe the high price is because BMW made a a very small number of them and there aren't but a hand full left. That price is right on the money.

Got an email from one of the DBB'ers who was there. He said the R50 went to a CA buyer. Commisions were paid to the auction house on top of the sale price, so figure on the R50 going for over 30k.

I was there also, everything was high.
