Beep... beep... beep.... this just in!

Just talked to the GM @ my favorite BMW dealership.

He has seen the bike!!!

He has a picture of the bike!!!

He won't show it to me!!!

Here is what he did tell me....

21" front wheel

Chain drive

70/30 on/off road

83bhp

made him drool and possibly want to rid his HP2 for it

looks great

does not look like any of the previous bike. new design

no specs on tank size

guestimated price in the $12k range

worldwide sales launch in Mar '08

could be announced as early as tomorrow

WILL BE @ SEATTLE IMS

on another note... 450 is not a G series bike... nor carry the G moniker

12GS will be redesigned to be more Adventurish while the 800GS will be more Dakarish...

no more 12GS/GSA in all of N.A. available until Mar '08...

This is consistent with what my dealer told me just a few days ago when I was inquiring about what GSs they had in the pipeline. I'm wondering if there will be any significant updates...?

this could be it!

pic doesn't look photoshoped and looks to be a studio bike pic. it's not suppose to look like anything else and that looks like a very complete package. if it is my guess is an adv version will follow.

Now, if they can cut the price by about $4-5K, this bike may be competitive.

Ain't that the truth. Not to hijack, but I am interested to see how the new KLR650 does this year. Cycle World had a nice write up on it this past month. KLR650 Article

I would honestly be VERY interested in a F800GS......but not until they start showing up used, abused, and a little closer to my price range for a bike that I'm going to beat the crap out of

I wonder if the 450X is a rebranded KTM? ? ? Inquiring minds want to know. It seems to me that this bike just showed up with no previously posted spy photos (At least as far as I know) How was BMW able to keep this bike under wraps?

Cheers!

The 450 has been out and about in several competitions in Europe this year as a factory special. It's pure BMW with their normal unique take on a solution to a problem. Looks very well thought out although I don't think it has set the competion world on fire, yet!

And why are they putting a bloody chain on the F800GS? No tubeless tyres plus a grotty chain to look after, no thank you.

450 existed before BMW bought Husky. Totally created from scratch with unusual take on design challenges such as clutch on crankshaft, primary sprocket concentric with rear swing arm pivot, etc.

yes and no. it was first raced before bmw officially bought husky however husky techs were also there working with the bike when it was first raced. it's not a husky design but they had a hand in helping. husky remains seperate and thus bmw has there own 450 for those who only buy bmw.

because a chain flat out works! it's proven & gearing can easily be moddified. makes perfect sense for this bike.

oh yeah not sure if you've read...bmw has less than stellar luck with their FDs. lmao.gif

Not too long I read a lengthy article on how Ducati was trying to change their image from being the "Ferarri of Motorcycles" to something more like the "Porsche of Motorcycles". Upscale and high performance yet not out of reach. Perhaps BMW is trying to move into the market Ducati is leaving? dopeslap.gifdopeslap.gifdopeslap.gif

I'd expect the pricing of the various F800 models to be similar to the R1200 pricing.

$12-14K

the "new" 1200s have to be priced more to properly slot the 800s.
