Mike05 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Anyone know where the BMW Sport Integral Carbon Fiber Helmet can be purchased in the US? The Motorcycle Helmet Weights page shows it to be far lighter then any of the others. As far as I know, it's only sold in Europe and, if fact, I'm not even sure it's DOT approved here. That being said, Joyce needs as light a helmet as we can find for her. This is the only (full-face) helmet we've found that is this light (2.2 lbs.) Any ideas on where to buy one appreciated. Will also deal with a European vendor if recommended by a Board member.
John Bentall Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 It gives me a warm feeling inside that you love your wife so much - the price of the BMW helmet here in the UK is approx $US1700! This one is the same weight ,990g, but much less expensive! http://www.polo-motorrad.de/group/1083/p...tdetails.0.html
TestPilot Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 They're also sold in Asia. The salesman at BMW Motorrad Daegu, South Korea, says he can get either the regular or carbon fiber version. The regular model is approximately US $600.
Dances_With_Wiener_Dogs Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I'm not even sure it's DOT approved here. Are you worried that you might be cited if ever pulled over? I would never worry about that aspect. Besides, if you are concerned about that then I'm sure you can find DOT stickers to purchase somewhere...or make your own. The EUR compliant helmets are probably tested as stringently as the US helmets. Dang, that carbon fiber helmet looks cool!

Chap I know was involved in an accident with a Ford Mondeo (mid-sized car) whilst wearing one. His head ended up under the forward part of the cars chassis, holding the wheels off the ground. He had broken ribs, leg and a dislocated shoulder and spent several weeks in hospital but his head was uninjured. Andy
Mike05 Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 Not at all concerned if it's DOT approved; referenced that point only because I'm believe that fact would make it less likely it would be available in the U.S. We do a lot of two-up riding, including vacations; Joyce needs as light a helmet as possible if she is to continue riding pillion; therefore the search. A carbon fiber "lid" may by expensive but it's gotta be cheaper then going back to just golf vacations! Sizing may be an issue; so if anyone can recommend a favorite "store" or person to deal with I'd appreciate it.
