Fightingpiper Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Well the long version is I grew up on the back of a Goldwing and am now 35 years old. My parents were divorced when I was about 5 and right before my 7th birthday my mom started me with a "big brother". He was a bachelor Farmer/Electrition and he rode Wings. He got me my first cycle when I was in third grade and the last one that I owned was when I was in highschool. Skip ahead 17 years and I finally asked my girlfriend of 10 years to marry me and we wed on Sept. 29th. I had my "big brother" (who is 20 years older than me) be my best man and for my bachlor party he and I took a trip on his 2 Goldwings this September. Granted it was only a weekend trip but the hook was reset. Well the new wife said that I was a changed person after I got back from that trip and much more relaxed and said I had her blessing to get a bike on one condition... and that was she could have children. Well tonight I will have to live up to my half of the bargain as I am now a proud owner of a 2006 RT. Here are a couple of shots from the dealer. It has most of the options except the radio but does have the prep kit. It only has 1800 miles on it and I picked it up for $13,500 did I do alright?
Rotor Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 If she has twins, are you going to get a GS? Way Too FUNNY!!!!!!!!
Lawman Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 did I do alright? I don't know but your wife will buy a test kit at the drug store and will let you know in a matter of weeks..
Doppelganger Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I traded same way...she got a pool...I got a bike.
RTs4me Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Remember the advice given on the side of a matchbox: 'keep dry and away from children' The RT will you keep you dry and take you far away Enjoy the new bike, ride safe
yempaul Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 The RT will you keep you dry and take you far away
SteveHebert Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 did I do alright? Any wife that gives you that option is prcieless. Yeah, you did great. She is a keeper! Enjoy her for a very long time.
10ovr Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 did I do alright? Any wife that gives you that option is prcieless. Yeah, you did great. She is a keeper! Enjoy her for a very long time. The wife or the bike
Mike05 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 You did fine; nice looking bike!! Also, Welcome to the Board!! You may want to fill out your personal info. so we know where you hail from. Good luck with both the bike & the baby. (s!).
RichEdwards Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 After 4 kids, my wife would have let me buy a bike if I DIDN'T get her pregnant.
SageRider Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Welcome to the board! Congrats on the bike! Good luck with the baby.... Of course, if you run into difficulties keeping to your half of the bargain, I'm sure there are many of us on the board here who could help!
Rocket_Cowboy Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 That bike looks alot like Greg's (Limecreek), and could pass for mine except that it doesn't have enough "comfort" junk bolted onto the bike. I like that graphite color quite a bit, but then I'm biased ... both my car and the bike are that color. Don't know what part of the country you're from, hope to meet you out on the road before long!
JayW Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Sounds like you did great, and what a bargain price for an almost-new RT. My wife and I have occasionally worked out similar "negotiations" throughout 24 years of marriage, though I won't go into any details on a worldwide public forum. You both are really in win-win situations. I'd hightly recommend having several kids - maybe you can get a new "toy" with each one! Enjoy, and be careful out there. Jay
Angel Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 welcome, well you got the best bike you could buy and the best color scheme... I think you did OK. ENJOY! ride lots NOW, while you got the time.
gordiet Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Oh boy! My wife has given me a few options during our marriage and now I have six bikes in the shop. Including a 1200RT, and we are still married and no kids.
AdventurePoser Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Welcome to the board! Congrats on the bike! Good luck with the baby.... Of course, if you run into difficulties keeping to your half of the bargain, I'm sure there are many of us on the board here who could help! Steve in So Cal Ps-You did fine on the bike, my friend. When you get a chance, fill out your Bio so we know a bit about you...
shredder Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 What a deal!!!!!!!! Kids may be a bit more expensive though! LOL Beautiful bike and great deal on a basically brand new bike! Congrats.. you will love that RT!
Fightingpiper Posted October 21, 2007 Author Posted October 21, 2007 Thanks everyone for the "kind" words and I have updated my profile. I just got back from putting 325 miles on today as it will probably be one of the last days of good weather here in Minnsota. It was 72 and Sunny all day . From the ride I will have to open up the checkbook this winter and buy a few things. Firs on the list is a taller windshield. I'm 6'3 but most of my height is in my upper body so its quit loud even with the windscreen all the way up. I need a couple of inches and it will be really quiet. Will also need to lower the foot pegs and eventually get a new seat. Those will be the Needs and then I can work on the wants.....again thanks for the warm welcome and I know I will be asking a lot more questions. Oh BTW the graphite color is definitly the fastest as I have the ticket to prove it
italiano Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Do not spend money on the pegs and seat just buy the air seat. it will raise you so you do not have to bend so much the legs and is very confortable. you only need to focus on so much air to put inside it. In 9 months you will see how much is going to cost your bike.
CruisinCruzan Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 If kids were the price for the bike you will have the world's most expensive bike, enjoy (think of them as a farkle, for your enjoyment only, horrible resale value). Of course I am speaking from the viewpoint of someone that has less than a year before the youngest is off to college.
