rocks Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Mine are switched with the high beam switch... but there is an override so I don't have to have the aux lights on with my High beams
Rocket_Cowboy Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Really depends on the lights. When I was running 110w pencil beam spots (PIAA 910s), I slaved them off the high beams, as they couldn't really be used with other traffic around. For lower wattage "fill" lights, like 35w fogs, I'd either slave them off the low beam or run them independent.
E30TECH Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 I just ordered a set of PIAA 1100X from cyclegadgets. I'll be installing them during the week under the oil cooler. I was thinking of how I am going to wire them. I did get the autoswitch as well. I think I want to run them independent, but I'd like to see how others are doing it. I can't imagine the PIAAs will be too bright to use with the lowbeams.

ESokoloff Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 On my 03 RT I powered the Motolites relay via the fog lights switch leg so no additional switch is needed. I run all the lights all the time so this way it's all or nothing.

I can't imagine the PIAAs will be too bright to use with the lowbeams. Mine are wired up under the oil cooler as well, but they can only be turned on when the high beam is activated. I don't think mine would be safe to use with the low beam on a regular basis. My morning commute is before the sun comes up, and I know the PIAA lights would be blinding the hell out of everyone on the road if I had them turned on. I have been wanting to add a second set down by the front fender for "always on" use.
Bill_Walker Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Mine were on the bike when I bought it. PIAA 1100X mounted under the oil cooler, with the PIAA switch stuck on the side of the front brake reservoir. I usually run with them on all the time for conspicuity (with low beam headlight and fog lights), but I like having the option to turn them off, for example, when I'm working on the bike and don't want the power drain, or toward dusk when they start to bother oncoming drivers.
Ken H. Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I said "Independent" but for me that is an incomplete answer. My Motolights come on with the low beam, unless I flip a seperate switch that turns them off. Most of the time I just leave this switch on. My Hella's come on with the high beam, unless I flip a different seperate switch that turns them off. Most of the time I just leave this switch off. At night if I want the Hella's on with the high beam, I flip the switch turning them on. But if I need to dim/dip for an oncoming car I need only hit the OEM high beam switch and the factory high beam and the Hellas dip at the same time. This way too my high beam modulator doesn't impact the Hella's. I also have my Flash2Pass garage opener connected to the high beam. So with this setup when I pulse the high beam to open the door the Hella's don't pulse also.
Mr_Ed Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I know that many folks only want to run with the low or the high... personally I don't understand why. I like the option of being able to run mine with low or high. Options! I like options!
Sidmariner Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Moto-lights controlled by Autoswitch on signal cancellation button. Auxiliary yellow fog lights controlled by RTP light switch added later.
Leo Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 In Oz we have no choice. Spot lights must be slaved to high beam and fill lights must be slaved to low beam only. Am considering HID inserts in FF200 mounted on EMP brackets. That should light up the kangaroos.
Jon_M Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 I like the option of being able to run mine with low or high. Options! I like options! Same here. And the 1100X PIAAs should not blind oncoming traffic if they are aimed right. They are not distance lights, and if they are lighting up the foreground as they are designed to do, they are actually aimed pretty low. If you mount them down by the front axle, it's fairly easy to bump them out of adjustment, and then the other folks on the road will let you know.
