Electrical switches

Can you take an electrical switch, rated at 10A @ 125VAC and 6A @ 240VAC and use it for 12VDC purposes?? Will only be running a relay off it. If not....give me a short story, on why not. I figure that electricity is electricity.....and all I'm doing is turning it on and off.

TIA

A relay should be fine. I found that if it's used for something that has next to zip current such as a garage door opener that the resistance of a heavy current switch some times has enough resistance that you have to hit the switch 2 or 3 times before it makes contact.

Yep....that's what I was looking for................it is an illuminated switch. So I reckon I'll toss that idea out. I did google "12vDC rocker switches" and found just what I was looking for.

Thank you too!

Did the swicthes you found have a round base or rectangular base? IMO, the round are easier to install since you only need to drill the hole and thread the nut on the bottom. I was going to get these, which would have illuminated, but they charge a fair amount for shipping and I did not want to pay twice as much in shipping as the switches cost. I might go back and order 6 switches to fill the pre cut holes in the dash then just find more stuff to power. :D
