MGN54 Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Doing the oil change on the tranny. Good news is clean oil came out! No chocolate milk and no metal bits. Refilling now. Owners manual says .80 l I put 800cc's in measured with my RatioRite cup and it is not up to the bottom of the filler hole. All ok or should I add a little more up to the bottom of the filler hole? Thanks! Mark

MGN54 Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 That was fast! Thanks Seth!! I think I'll add a bit more and call it done. Mark
Linz Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Thanks for that post. I wanted to know that too. I did mine a few weeks back and 800ml didn't show anywhere near the bottom of the fill hole. I topped it up and have been waiting for the explosion ever since... I can now relax. This sword of Damocles is hell to live with... Linz
smiller Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 FWIW you'll notice the same thing with the final drive... the BMW-recommended oil fill won't come up to the fill hole. Common practice though is to fill just to the bottom of the threads. As with the transmission, easier than measuring and causes no problems.
Perlova Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Just bought this pump from Princess Auto for $4.99. Should make the oil filling process much easier.
NonComp Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I just recently refilled after I had the gearbox apart to replace the seals. Took almost a full litre.
