Chunky Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 After getting just 6,000 miles from the new Bridgestone B21 my dealer called them and they said there were issues with that "front" tire and the R1200RT. They replaced the tire with a B20 front at no cost. I slipped my dealer a $20 bill to help defer his labor cost. Good for Bridgestone. As a footnote I got 14,000 out of my last two B20 front tires.
CoarsegoldKid Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 14K miles out of the B020 B'stones, amazing. I got 5K and the tire was toast. Same for the rear. Same for Z6s too. I figure you must be wheelie king in your area, unicycling around town.
Chunky Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Actually I got 14k out of the original z6 tires as well as the b20s. Only 9k from Michilin street pilots. I love the B20s the best. I have 7k on the rear B21 & it's still looking good.
notacop Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 5K, it's all you can expect out of the 020's if you careene around corners, brake hard and act like an old squid! 14000 is wunderful. How often does he replace rear pads, every 10,000 miles? must be 'cus he ain't braking with the fronts!
Chunky Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 Brakes, What are brakes? I still have the original brake pads on the bike with 43,000 miles on it. My last bike, a 2001 K1200LTC had the original rear brake pads on it at 68,000 miles. I ride the twisty roads of Oregon, averaging 3,000 miles a month at times. I got 20,000 miles on my LT using Metzeler Marathon ME880s three times in a row. Can't understand how anyone gets only 5 or 6 thousand miles out of any tire unless they're defective.

That's scary - did they tell you any more about the "issues?" I've got about 6k on my B21's. They're wearing far better than anything I've had so far, but I don't do funky fronts too well.
beemerfan Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Has anyone else heard about problems with the B21 fronts on RT's? I've got about 6k on a set of B21's. They look like they're holding up well, but I don't want to find out the hard way that there's an issue.
paul_gardner Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 On the official Bridgestone website in the UK it says that the B021's are not yet approved on the 1200RT. They are approved for the 1200ST though. I spoke to the Bridgestone rep and he said NO to the 021's on an RT and to stay with the 020's. However BMW have now approved the Conti Road Attacks for OEM supply on the RT, so I maybe I'll go down that route.
AdventurePoser Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 So NOW I read this tbread....I just bought front and rear for my R12RT... Guess I'll find out myself how the BT 021s fare! Steve in So Cal

My Conti Road attack front is still good for another couple thousand, but the Rear is down to the cord, just at 7980.
