empeg9000 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Just wanted to say hi to everyone. This is my first post. I just traded in my 2000 R1100S and picked up a 2007 R1200RT You can read more about it here: http://empeg9000.blogspot.com/
Wiley Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Oh no, not a '07! That's the ones they're having all the problems with! Seriously though congratulations, that's a nice looking RT. I like the blue.
BereIsland Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Hi from the uk, I've had my R1200RT for getting on for 3 years and 40,000 miles and shes still great. Steve
10ovr Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Welcome,,You we love the RT,,You do know that the silver RT,s are a lot faster But blue is nice First thing you should do is get a SEAT,,BMW seats suck,,I have a Sargent on my RT and love it,,Keep the rubber side down,,
kcscout Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Welcome and congrats. Reading about your test ride cracked me up. Those pegs are hard to shift. Enjoy your new ride.
SageRider Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Welcome to the board. Congrats on the new ride! Nice blog!
ScottT Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Just wanted to say hi to everyone. Back at ya! I think you'll really enjoy the RT if your a rider who really likes the sport part of sport touring. I love mine a little more eveyday. Got 48k and it keeps getting better. Mileage is better, motor is smoother and faster. It will now do a GPS indicated 140 which is 4 MPH faster than my old 2002 R1150RS would ever go. Faster than most R1100Ss I think. Of course the straight line speed is nice to have but it's handling in the twisties that makes it such a treat. Except for the part where I'm going through tires every couple of months. Enjoy your new ride!
JayW Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I can understand your attachment to the old bike, epecially if it is linked to fond memories - I have had the same sentiments with some of my previous vehicles as I said goodbye. I suspect the new RT will quickly confirm that it is a worthy successor. Enjoy and be careful. Jay
empeg9000 Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Welcome,,You we love the RT,,You do know that the silver RT,s are a lot faster But blue is nice First thing you should do is get a SEAT,,BMW seats suck,,I have a Sargent on my RT and love it,,Keep the rubber side down,, They did try to warn me that Silver was the way to go because they were so quick but I figured I would get blue so I don't get so many tickets. That seat is pretty hard. Even on my short 40 minute ride yesterday my butt was getting sore. Reading about your test ride cracked me up. Those pegs are hard to shift. They sure are! Back at ya! I think you'll really enjoy the RT if your a rider who really likes the sport part of sport touring. I love mine a little more eveyday. Got 48k and it keeps getting better. Enjoy your new ride! Yeah I think about 130 was the most the R11S would do. It wasn't very aero. I do enjoy the twisties and in fact I took it out for a short ride last night and already got the "chicken strips" down to about nothing. I can understand your attachment to the old bike, epecially if it is linked to fond memories - I have had the same sentiments with some of my previous vehicles as I said goodbye. I suspect the new RT will quickly confirm that it is a worthy successor. I think I will take to the RT just fine. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Another thing that is going to take some getting used to is the wind protection. Last night it was mid-50s which on the S would mean heavier gloves, jacket and the liner. On the RT I was sweating dressed like that. I had to pull over to take off the jacket liner and change glove. I was fun buzzing it around without any of the luggage on it except the tank bag. It looks reasonably sport that way.
tallman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Hi from the uk, I've had my R1200RT for getting on for 3 years and 40,000 miles and shes still great. Steve Only because you operate it on the wrong side of the road which changes the input dynamics on the FD.
boatzo Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Welcome Stephen, Looks like a great bike and I really enjoyed your blog. I have been seriously considering trading my R1100RT for a 1200 RT. I rode one last weekend and liked it, but like you, it didn't really jump up and grab me. I new have 92k miles on my RT and need something with lower miles, I think it will be a 1200RT, but will wait and see. Thanks again for the write up.
ScottT Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 That seat is pretty hard. Even on my short 40 minute ride yesterday my butt was getting sore. My stock seat has gotten better with age. My losing 100 pounds has helped too. Since I've had my RT I've done 1000+ days on it four times and even more 800+ miles days. With the sheepskin cover I stay pretty comfortable all day. Enough that I've not got gone and gotten an after market seat. Others on this forum haven't been able to deal with the stock seat and have gone with various after market options. If you don't get along with the seat getting it right for you is pretty easy.
LuckyLeif Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Hey this OP stole my bike! Naw wait it's still in the parking lot. My blue RT is my 4th beemer. My earlier bikes are thought by some to be sportin' beemers, but this RT is the easist to ride fast thru the twisties. I've seen no need to replace the stock seat; just throw on an Air Hawk if I expect to do more than 300 miles.
