brianbmw Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 What are you guys using? I'm only 5'-7". I'm looking for something that will provide a quieter ride and a little bit more warmth in the winter. Brian
bakerzdosen Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I'm using the stock one, and although I really wanted one of the Wunderlich (touring or marathon) screens, I'm pretty sure I'll stick with this one for a while longer. It just works for me...
rbstone Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I have a ZTechnik Vstream windshield I'm not using. I've had in on the R1200ST a couple of times for short rides. I'm 5'7" 160 lbs works good. I like the low shield better. I'll sell it for $130 including shipping. Cost $179. http://shop.ztechnik.com/cgi-bin/ztech/results?search_model=bm-045
Ben_Ricci Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I have a Cee Baileys Euro Cut. It's not pretty, but for me it's effective. I'm 5'7" and it's difficult to say whether or not the same windscreen will work for you as well. We are each a little different (longer legs, torso, etc.) and our riding postures may vary as well. I really had a difficult time with the stock screen and it was the first thing I changed on the bike. I found it to be extremely turbulent and I got a steady "spray" of dead bugs straight up the center of my face shield. I couldn't go anywhere without wanting to clean my face shield within a short time. I haven't had that problem with the CB windscreen.
HexST Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 here is one that looks interesting from boxer design. www.boxer-design.us/secr1200sten.htm
brianbmw Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 Ron if you can wait a week or two i think i will take you up on that deal. I will get back to you when i'm ready to buy. In the mean time if someone else wants it, feel free to sell it. How would you take payment? Brian
kopov260 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 If anyone is interested in Cee Bailey Euro Cut I have it and ready to sell. I used it once and went right back to stock.
Mike Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 ADMIN NOTE: Guys & Gals--I realize that we got into this innocently enough, but if you've got something to buy or sell, please post in Classifieds. That helps us keep these threads uncluttered, and is also the place where everyone looks for items for sale. Thanks.
lightcycle Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Ermax tinted windshield. Slightly larger than stock, but not so large that it turns the the ST into a Harley.
progress49 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 What are you guys using? I'm only 5'-7". I'm looking for something that will provide a quieter ride and a little bit more warmth in the winter. Only 5'7''? It's never "only" cousin, stand tall. I tried the euro-cut Baily windshield, it was OK in the winter, but I preferred the stock shield any other time. I found that the perfect set up for me (I'm 5'7") is the stock shield and a Laminar Lip. LL has one made for the ST. It gets the bugs out of my face shield and over the helmet, quiet too.

progress49 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Here you go Ben. http://www.laminarlip.com/r1200st.php The one I used was a little different than this one, left over from my R1150R sport shield, but it worked very well. I'm assuming a model specific one would be even better.
brianbmw Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Thanks for the help guys. I like the looks of that ermax shield, i'm going to look into that one a little more.

bmwson Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I installed a Ztechnic Vstream windshield about 500 miles ago. It is much quieter and less turbulent than the stock shield at speeds above 60 mph. I am 5'9" and it works well for me. It is quite strong as well (6mm polycarbonate) compared to the stock shield. I just received a set of AC Schnitzer handle bars for my ST. They will give me a more upright seating position so I'll see how well my Ztechnic works then.
brianbmw Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 BMWSON, pleas keep us updated on the AC Schnitzer handle bars. I use the verhollen risers, but i was also interested in the bars you bought. If you can please post a few pics and a review when you get a chance to evaluate them. Thanks, Brian

Are you just keeping it in the lowest position? I tried one and the adjustment stops couldn't deal with the added weight. In the higher positions, whenever I went over a bump, it would slide down. Problem for me was in the lowest position I got horrible helmet buffetting. Switched back to the stock screen and decided not to ever question the wisdom of the designers in Berlin again.
bmwson Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 I had the problem of the stock winshield falling back to the lowest position when I hit a bump. I haven't tried the Ztechnic in anything but the lowest position and fortunately it works well for me there.

One problum, they don't have the parts in stock yet.
DoctorC Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I purchased my ST used with a tall parabellum. Most of the year I use a tinted CBailey stock size. But come winter, the parabellum has me completed shielded... 5-9 with seat in high position... Steve C NJ
xoomerite Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 When I got my ST, I changed to the Cee Bailey right away. I found that the turbulence hit me right in the faceshield's center. That worked out to be quite noisy. When the weather warmed, I changed back to the stock shield. The wind hits me mid-chest, allowing a quieter, less turbulent ride. Now that the weather is cooler, I have the Cee Bailey Euro cut back on the bike, but am tiring of the noise. 6'-4". I would like to have the wind clear my helmet in the cooler times.
phxforsale Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Stock and laminar lip here, I use the same set up on my 99 k1200rs (stock and laminar lip)works great!
db4124 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I just bought a ztechnic Vstream and it is loud to the point of being unusable. Sounds like holding your head out the car window at 70mph. I am 5'9" and the wind hits about the middle of my faceshield in the high or low position. I will be taking it off and going back to the stock screen.
