Flex, slack or slop

See the fastner just about 1/2 inch from the side of the tire casing that secures the brake line and ABS wire. Well the tire is making contact with it when accelerating.(note the cheese grater size tire bits laying on top of the arm) Did the 12/6 and 9/3 o'clock check. Seems o.k. in that respect. And Nooo it's not one of the Japanese bikes.

Are you running stock size tires?

Are you sure that's what is doing it? I've heard of the cannister hitting the rear tire, but never the bolt that you are indicating.

You are talking about the zip ties hold the ABS wire to the hard brake line?

I think the wire routing is wrong, and there is much more slack in the ABS wire in that area than is normal. Also the zip ties are much bigger than the OEM ones and at least the rear most one is in the wrong postion.

Clip the zip ties and remove the ABS sensor so you can re-route the wire along the outside (away from the tire side) of the hard brake line and hose. And move all the slack up toward the bike's chassis. Then use a much smaller zip tie for the ABS wire around the small part of the hard line, nearer the caliper, rather than around the largest portion where the hard line connects to the hose. And an additional one much further up the hose once past the tire.

Also, on occasion I have had to carefully bend the hard line coming off the caliper outward just a bit.

Have you had the rear wheel off? Was there a shim between the wheel and hub? If so, was it reinstalled with the wheel?

Tire size is the stock size

checked cannister - no contact there

Last time tire was R/R was for final drive warranty about 7 mos ago, but it was occuring then as well, but didn't make sense of it until last week. I thought the noise I was hearing was detonation.

I can turn the bolt around to give more clearance it's just that I didn't think there would be that much torsional twist to deflect the tire over that much.

Thanks for the responses. I'll just keep a watch on it. R

Is the tire making contact with the bolt or the swing arm?

Has the back wheel got the spacer fitted?

Does the wheel touch any of these components when on the centre stand?

It may be dragging inside the arm as well but the bolt provides the only alignment possibilites for producing the contact point (groove).

Spacer? I'll have to check. (I) have never had the wheel off so I'll reference the manual to see what your talking about.

No, not even when exerting pressure by hand, but I'm not sure that is a valid test when compared to the actual forces.

Thanks for your reply.
