Armando Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Phil, MUCHAS GRACIAS!!! to you and your family. I had a great time wrenching (seems like that is all I did) and it was well worth it. My bike is at its best. Techlusion off, CCP on and no surging signs whatsoever!!! MOS - Thanks so much for the help with the valve job. The 10 minutes you spent with me teaching me the technique are some of the most valuable in my book. Doing the TB was the fastest ever I have done as well. Thanks Francis, Thanks for your help doing the cam chain tensioner. I would not have thought to do this myself. It is good thing to be working next to guy who has all the tools!!! An envelope will be coming your way this week. Dave and Erick - Great meeting you. I enjoyed your company and conversation. Peter - It was brief but good to see you. Lets see if we can go a ride this fall. TomK - Bummer about your bike. Hopefully you will get it back in time for a fall ride. I have to imagine you have some pretty nice routes up your way. Boy, this is turning out to be like one of those academy award shows!!! Paul - Thank for you help on the brake bleeds and the user of your tools. and finally, Phil and Jan, thanks again for your hospitality. Armando
Fasterpill Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Armando, you were amazing. I walk in the garage at 7AM and you're at it. I think you need to charge yourself a thousand bucks for that long service you gave your bike! Here's some photos: Things started coming in the mail: Eric (Svensk) removing tupperware on his RT: Dave (wkndman) on his oil change: Eric's Tupperware: Fixin' ta fix Eric's tyre. Hmmmm.....: How many guys does it take?: After Paul got the tire off we got close to done with the Mojolever then finished it off in short order with 2 spoons at the end: Peter - good thing he came - we surely tapped his know-how: Armando Wrenchin...: This is how I like the garage to look: Seth dreaming: Eric's tire has a new happy owner: Seth taking my sister, Ruth for the ride of her life!: I had such a great time with all of these guys. My wife handled everything beautifully. Mike and Ginny were key in keeping things moving for me, cooking, running errands, stealing my car... Thanks, Paul and Suzanne for forgetting that white wine. Haven't cracked it yet. Francis, you added so much to this thing, too, and now I have my 5th lug bolt installed. There's too much stuff to mention, except that this bunch of guys were all great company. Let's do this next weekend too. Wait... Tom K IS coming back. I'll let him tell his story.
TomK Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Wait... Tom K IS coming back. I'll let him tell his story. Unfortunately I will be returning. But let me explain "unfortunately." My day started very nicely riding the back roads of Vt and NY on a clear, crisp autumn morning. Things srarted to go downhill in Corinth when I had a roadside chat with a member of the local police force. He invited me to come back again but I think I'll just mail it in. What happened next was a complete and sudden clutch failure. In the middle of a shift I lost all connection to the drive train and coasted to a halt accompanied by a burning smell. All attempts to get in gear were only successful in generating a loud whining noise. Fortunately, although I didn't realize it, I was just a couple of blocks from Phil's house. Phil, Mike and Eric rode to the rescue and Mike helped me push (actually I just steered) the bike to the garage. We quickly decided the problem was beyond the scope of the Tech Daze and called Max BMW. They actually pick up bikes for service but due to transport problems will not be able to get this one until next Sat. Coincidently I had just had a conversation with my local dealer 2 days before in which he suggested I consider replacing the clutch (original with 138k miles) as a preventive measure. I guess he means what he says. Eventually Hertz ripped me good for a one way rental back to Vt but not before an enjoyable few hours meeting nice people, watching them work and taking advantage of Phil and Jan's hospitality. It was nice to see you all. Thanks for all the help. Thanks again Phil and Jan. I hope to be back in a few weeks. Hopefully before it snows.
Svensk Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 This was originally posted in the wrong place. Now I get it... once the event is over it is no longer "Event Planning' but rather a "Ride Tale." Duh! Phil, Thanks for a great Stone Soup Tech Daze. I came not knowing what to expect (as a Tech Daze newbie) and was amazed at how everyone pitched in to make it a great event. Thanks to all who helped me do the 6k service and change the rear tire. Phil, Jan and the rest of the family (especially Seth) thanks for making your home available and for making us feel welcome - you were the perfect host family! Here are a few pictures (not many of mine came out). Shopping for Stone Soup ingredients Phil surveying his kingdom while Armando hides in front of his bike. Glad I made it into the garage before the wheel fell off. View on the way home just off Rt 7 In Eastern NY. Thanks Again to ALL for a great Tech Daze!
mos Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Phil, Gini and I would like to thank you and your family for hosting the Fall Tech Days. We enjoyed everyone who showed up. For those of you that did not make it you missed a good time and If Phil host it again you won't want to miss it again. Just don't leave his front door open! Mike
Fasterpill Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I want everyone to know I made it home safely.
Art.. Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 How the hell did I miss this? Man, I'm really out of the loop.
Francis Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Phil and crowd I really enjoyed this get together. (I also seem to enjoy each get together of members of this board.) Great hospitality and friendship as we all wroked on our bikes. The almost 200 mile ride home was a pleasure in the fall colors and modest wind. Can't wait for the spring get together. Again, thanks Phil for hosting this event. Francis
mikeR1100R Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Sounds like another successful NE Tech Daze! I am sorry I couldn't make this one. I'll keep my eye out for the spring edition next year. Mike
Svensk Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Hope you took the clamp off the throttle before you rode home....
Armando Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Hope you took the clamp off the throttle before you rode home.... Man, how I wish I had a camera at the moment. It would have made a great new avatar for Phil.
George Brown Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Yo Phil, It looks like you really did get that garage cleaned out. Sorry I missed the TechDaze.
Fasterpill Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 It would go along with Paul's interpretation of my current avatar: "I see dead people" Bike runs fine, thanks to my wrenching on the throttle. Art, I wish you made it too. I can't believe I haven't ridden with you yet. Let's cure that. George, now I get to accumulate my sister's stuff. I plan on hosting another one of these next fall. Paul is interested in hosting the upcoming Spring one.
