BigAL Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Buddy and I took an impromptu ride around Rainier Friday. Weather was typical autumn in the Pac NW -- cool, cloudy, some sprinkles improving to dry. We took 410 from Enumclaw. Break fast at Buzz's Greenwater cafe and saw a couple RT's and a Honda across the street -- we should have hooked up, btw..where were you 3 heading?? -- planned on riding to Sunrise, which was closed... Rode through Chinook/Cayuse pass and back. Beautiful color, patches of clouds in the valleys and canyons... then planned on Stevens Canyon to Paradise, but that was closed as well! So we rode down to Packwood, my GPS didn't have the right maps loaded (operator error) so we asked for directions. Took a NFS road (52 I think) which was a pretty fall ride, lots of color, curvy but a bit rough in spots.... got to see a large chinook style helo doing some heavy lifting in the Nisqually river.. that took us through the Gifford Pinchot Forest all the way around to the road that enters the park from the west side, the Nisqually entrance. A quick ride up to Paradise, temps in the high 30's, and back out the west side. So be aware -- the road to Sunrise was closed, I don't know if that was for the rest of the winter or not. The Stevens Canyon road is closed from just west of the Grove of the Patriarchs, so you cannot get to Paradise that way. Oh, and expect a few areas of construction with one lane roads/alternating traffic flows -- slight delays. A pretty fall ride -- AL
K2R1150RS Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 I went up 410 last week and got these pics before the snows: Mt. Rainier sunset from Chinook Pass Yakima Peak and my RSL
