Francis Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 I'm looking at the TomTom Rider GPS and was wondering what the experience of this board has been with this unit. It seems simple enough for an inexperienced GPS rider who is not overly gadget prone. I would be using it with an AutoCom system. The unit seems to come with a Bluetooth headset but I want to connet it into the AutoCom for use with existing earphones already installed in my helmet. I'd appreciate your feedback on this unit. Francis Francis, before the Zumo 550 the Tom Tom rider was a well respected unit.. The original rider had some issues with it’s M/C mount that vibrated loose.. I don’t believe the Tom Tom had/has the ability to use your home computer for routing.. To me that is a big plus if you want to follow a pre determined route.. If you just want to get to a destination in the most direct way then the Tom Tom would probably work as good.. Are you looking at the older Tom Tom 1 or the newer Tom Tom 2? For a little more money you can have the Garmin Zumo 550 & so far that unit has worked very well for me.. Especially the computer routing part & L/H control buttons that allow good glove hand usage while under way.. The Zumo also comes with a very nice car mount as well as a motorcycle mount so it is real easy to use in both the car, truck, & motorcycle.. Twisty
ully211 Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 +1 on the ZUMO 550 ... absolutely love it. Easy to use, set up, and upload/download off a PC. And with the XM available with the GXM30, I don't ride without it.
Armando Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Francis, Costco has the Zumo for 670, shipped. Although you can find it a bit cheaper, I know I would not have any trouble taking it back if any issues arise. To me, that is worth the 15-20 you would save by buying elsewhere. a
