Napoleon Baren Mirrors Installed on an RT

With many thanks to Gkgeiger who posted his installation on May 24, I have installed Napoleon Baren Mirrors on my RT. They are AP-104 and I got them from my dealer for $32.00 each.

I had to grind the casting that fits into the handlebar down to just fit the included cover plates and one Toilet Tank bolt rubber washer so that the Napoleon mount buts up against the stock bar-end weights with the rubber washer in between. I had to enlarge the waster hole to fit the casting. I used 8M 50 mm hex cap bolts I got from NAPA Auto Parts instead of the bolt that comes with the Napoleon's. Theirs is too long but is the same thread as the stock bar-end weight retaining bolts. The NAPA's are chrome but after the installation, I think it looks OK that they are not black. I snugged them up with the included hex wrench and they seem secure.

They are GREAT! They don't obstruct the view of the stock mirrors at all. They only add about 4 inches to the bike's width when rotated in as in the photos. The provide an outstanding view to the rear. They cost less than the GS or RS mirrors and were an easy install (if you've got a grinder).

Here's what they look like.

And here's the back of the card that came packed with them that shows their adjustability, the mounting hardware included and the casting I needed to grind down (Fig. 2).

It was an easy install and they work great! I don't know why I didn't do this sooner. grin.gif

Just want all the blind spots as covered as I can get them. The duplicate blind spot mirrors are my current experiment and are admittedly redundant. I will probably remove the less effective of the two (the rectangular ones above the speaker grills) although they don't interfere with anything. I've had those on since day 1. The round ones are just held on with masking tape. I got the idea for these from Jeff Dean and they do work well.

Hi Ken, Sort of met you at the UnRally!

Vibration is present but relatively minor until I get above 75 at which I begin to have trouble identifying the make/model of the vehicle behind me.

I have these on my Triumph and the vibration can be dampened a bit by holding the mirror with your finger. I still can't make out the make or model but I can see those cars with lightbars above or red and blue lights in the grill!! By the way do you happen to have any scooters with tons of mirrors like the Mods??

Ken,

I just took it for a ride to double check the vibration. It's more than I previously indicated but acceptable to me. The right mirror, for some reason, vibrates less and gives a clearer view of what's behind. I would say they vibrate noticeably more than the stock RT mirrors especially under acceleration and at high speeds but quite usable.

Jeff describes those spot mirrors as "rotating." What does he mean by that? Aren't they just stuck on with double-sided tape?

I got mine at he local Advance Auto Parts. They are 2" and are described as "adjustable" They are "fitsystem" C0400-35-2555-4 and cost me $2.98 for a pair in a blister pak. The housing sticks to surfaces with double stick tape. The mirrors adjust (can be tilted) within the housing.

Here's what they look like on a car mirror. I also have these on my truck. wink.gif

Aha, so they do move around in their mounts. The ones I had on a previous bike were fixed. On my RT with the bar risers, there is a zone toward the top of the mirrors that shows only my hands. That seems to be a perfect place to mount the stick-ons.

Well,

I don't like the backgrounds I would get around my house (see attached). It seemed less distracting and the cemetery was handy to my house. I'll try for something more neutral next time. dopeslap.gifdopeslap.gif

Has anyone used these Napoleon mirrors with the ZTenich VStream shield? Does the shield bump the mirror?

I have similar ones, 2" non adjustable. Bought them at Canadian Tire for $2.00/pr. Work great.

Yes .... that is the set-up I have on my RT and the Baron Napoleon mirrors do not touch the VStream at all! But I have heard those mirrors are getting difficult to find.

Dear Narcissist one, Napoleans are great mirrors. I had them of my old Air heads. It took a good crash to make one break. They usually just folded back nicely.

I had the GS mirrors added to my RT-P, I liked having lots of rear view as you do. But 8 of them? I hope you don't do as I did and almost rear end a car admiring my reflection in a store front window I was passing.

I lost the link for the aftermarket convex mirrors that replace the stock ones. I did a search but nothing. Does anyone know of these and any reviews?

Just added the Napoleon Baren AP-104's to 2010 RT. EZ-PEAZY!! I used the bolt that came with the kit.. wasn't too long for me. Just a tiny bit of grinding and cutting the whole in the rubber tank washer and viola...

I got them off of fleaBay for $55.00 shipped (the pair!) Vendor had them for auction at $19.95 per, I sent him an email.. and he sold me two for that price (55) FedEx to my door.

Thanks

You missed one. There are 8, one is hidden behind the GPS

Narcissistic is as narcissistic does?

A little tune floats in my head..."I'm so pretty..."

Apparently he never saw Cannonball Run where Raul Julia rips of the mirror and said, "What's behind me is not important!"
