Francois_Dumas
.... we still almost packed it in yesterday. We were riding back from Italy to France, using the freeway from Torino to the Frejus Tunnel connecting the two countries, when some idiot almost surprised me. We were just coming to the end of one of the many long tunnels, where a speed limit of 90 km/hr is enforced, when a guy in an Alfa (what else) came up behind us with considerably more speed than that 90. I estimate he was doing 130 or 140. Just as we left the tunnel he went into FULL braking, blocking his front wheels and skidding over some metal connection strips in the road onto my half. He had just passed me and was some 20 feet ahead of us in the left lane. I think my ABS kicked in... it felt a bit wobbly... when I squeezed the front brake in order to not run into the guy. Before he was all over our lane he let go of his brakes again and powered on! Only seconds later I realized what he'd done. I had NOT seen the speed camera (and guy sitting in a chair with it) just outside the tunnel tube. First of all I was not speeding, so not focused on that. And secondly I was paying more attention to the road and its occupants (fortunately) ;-) Still, I was mighty glad I did not hit any slick parts on that bit of road surface. I may have to repaint my helmet though.. Nina slammed hers into mine with some force! I had hoped that my first message in more than a week would have been one with pictures of the Dolomites..... still working on those We ARE home safely in our mountain retreat again though.. and that's what counts! Ride safely all ! Link to comment
