Beemeroil
Recently wired in Garmin 2610 GPS and it sits next to the XM, but squeals in place of the voice prompts. Any advice would be appreciated. Link to comment
AZKomet
Boy, you got me there..never heard of it. How about a ground loop interrupter from Radio Shack??? Link to comment
Fugu
What's it (the audio output of the GPS) plugged into and how? Give us all the details. I had trouble getting my 2720 to talk to my Autocom until I got all the plugs right- if the 2610 is the same you've got a mono output from the GPS and if plugging that into a stereo plug w/o an isolator it could be causing problems. A ground loop would typically give you a noise synced to your ignition or a whistle, not cause no sound but a squeal - so do you have a squeal OVER the voice prompts, or no voice prompts at all, just squeal? bobbybob
Recently wired in Garmin 2610 GPS and it sits next to the XM, but squeals in place of the voice prompts. Any advice would be appreciated. For starters, have you plugged a simple earphone into the Garmin's audio jack while its on its own power, and then on the bikes power, and listened to see if it squeals in either configuration? If its clear when on Garmin battery but squeals on bike power, it sounds like a bike induced issue. Does the squeal get higher and lower with the RPM's as you rev the engine? Link to comment
Beemeroil
The GPS audio is clear when the XM is out of it's cradle, but squeals when the XM is replaced and even when the power is off. Link to comment
bobbybob
1) Is the XM cradle wired into the bike for it's power? 2) If so, you mean it squeals when the power to the XM is disconnected?? Can you power the XM from a battery (other than the bike's) and see if it still squeals? 3) I assume the XM has a built-in FM transmitter so it will broadcast thru your car radio--correct? If so, can you disable the FM trans. ? It sounds like RF interference from the XM radio, either from the FM transmitter (if it has one) or from some circuitry in the radio. Move the radio away from the GPS and its audio cable and then try it. As far away as possible. Link to comment
Beemeroil
The xm is hard wired thru the bike battery. As is the GPS. The squealing occurs when both the GPS and the XM are connected. And the fm is turned off. Will try and figure some way to power the XM so I can check it out at some distance. Link to comment
flars
Which XM radio? The original Roady had a known problem with interfering with GPS (as in, the GPS wouldn't find the satellites it the XM was on), and many were replaced for free when people complained about it. I don't know if they caused noise in the GPS audio. The Roady2 comes with iron ferrite beads that get attached to two of the cables going to the XM, so they won't interfere with other electronic devices. Link to comment

Beemeroil
It seems that the tapping into a power line I used the same circuit that the XM uses. The phone cord I am using is running to the battery thru a power let. Next week when I have the time we will try a seperate power source. Will advise further when I am able to address this stupidity.
