imeyers
I just got the service manual and it seems that with the RT in order to change the transmission fluid, you have to remove all of the fairings, including the plastic over the tank and all. Seems like a lot of work to change transmission fluid. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe I am just reading it wrong. Thanks Link to comment
keithb
Just changed my tranny fluid last Sunday with Mobil 1, 75w140 synthetic-1 quart. You will need to remove the right side squarish panel and the larger panel on the right side of the gas tank including the glove box lid. Once that is done you have very easy access to the tranny fill plug. Pretty simple procedure. Link to comment
RoadJunkie
Only remove the right side of tupperware. But, be sure you can remove the fill plug BEFORE you remove the drain plug to drain the oil. If, for some reason, you can't remove the fill plug after you drained the oil you will be left with an empty tranny. Link to comment

If, for some reason, you can't remove the fill plug after you drained the oil you will be left with an empty tranny. Boy does THAT bring back memories!!! Many years ago when I was in the Air Force (I was 20 at the time) I was stationed at Luke AFB in Phoenix. My buddy had been reassigned to Langley, VA. The night before he is due to leave to go to VA, he decides to change the tranny fluid in his Datsun 240Z. So he asks me to come over and help if he needs it. I pop over and he has just taken out the drain plug to drain it. We have a beer and let it sit and drain. He then goes to pull the fill plug. CANNOT get it out. We work on it til 3:00 am in the morning. We try everything, WD-40, CRC-36, a torch, a *big* ass breaker bar. The only thing we succeed in doing is rounding the nut. He ends up having it towed to the dealer the next day. Had to fly out to VA and come back and get his Datsun another time. I've NEVER forgotten that. I ALWAYS pull the fill plug first, even when doing something as simple as changing the oil! Great reminder!!! Link to comment
