chrisolson
Its been about 8 months in the planning, but the day has finally come! The trip to Alaska is ON. Whip/Mrs. Whip and I will leave from Missoula Montana tomorrow. Bill Walker and friend will ride with us as far as Dawson Creek. We'll be posting here, but the bulk of the trip will most likely appear on --> this mini site <-- so please check it out. The route is there as well as all of our stops. I found an "internet travel access" service that has some local Canadian numbers and an 800 # so I'll be trying to update every day as we progress. Being dail up it may limit our picture posting ability, but we'll do our best. Hope you have a chance to follow along - it's gonna be GREAT Link to comment

Limecreek
Be prepaired for non-stop rain. A friend is just back and he had almost 4 straight weeks of rain.... I hope for Whip's sake you are wrong. It's been raining in Texas non stop for 4 months. We are nearly 2X our average annual rain fall with 5 months left in the year. Sending you good thoughts Whip and Chris and gang! Link to comment
Deadboy
This is my favorite quote from Jim's blog: Left Whitehorse around 11:00 and rode to a heli-skiing resort called Bell 2. It's a wonderful log style resort but they had no rooms available. So, I camped in the pouring rain. I hate the rain. This ride has been like a month long dual sport in constant rain. I don't know what the sun looks like anymore. But the scenary makes up for the dismal weather. Hopefully they are all out of rain by now....I had less than 2 hours in a week when I was there on my trip last July... Link to comment

Warren_H
There was light rain at Kluane Lake when I came through last week and a short (5 yards) muddy section in the construction zone. The road between Whitehorse, YT and the AK border has some rough sections that are well signed and unrepaired potholes which are not. I plan to leave Anchorage tomorrow to head for the ferry at Skagway if GF's flight arrives tonight AND the new final drive shows up tomorrow morning as scheduled at Anchorage BMW. If I see you I'll going North I'll wave. Link to comment

Anyway, don't have the availability to get the parts # (have to check out shortly ..) ,so was wondering if anyone might be able to help figure out what's needed to repair ... wonder if its best to order on line and ship to Alaska or work with the local dealer ... I've heard they're not the best ... but who knows ... ??? Link to comment

I've heard they're not the best ... but who knows ... ??? Chris, if the bike is rideable and it appears to be so, why not just wait until you get back home to make permanent repairs. Keep the plate available in case you need it. However, I'd wager you will not get asked about it until you cross a border. Go have fun and don't worry about it for now. EDIT: I just noticed you don't have a tail light or brake light, my bad. I can look for parts #'s for you. Link to comment

chrisolson
Thanks for all the lists - found out I also lost most of the front fender ... I think we're going to see if I can run a trailer marker as a brake light. WiFi in our lodging is out - what a surprise - so this is from a cafe ... just a couple of pics ... Its a steady drizzle today so its a good time to kick back and try to get organized ... try to post more tomorrow. Link to comment

Bill_Walker
Congrats on making the circle and Dempster and all those places! Who needs a taillight and fender anyway? Tom and I had a great ride south through Whistler and Vancouver, then messing about in Washington, out the Columbia River Gorge (the windsurfing mecca was flat calm) to the Oregon coast. All of the previous were HOT! Then we cruised down the Oregon coast (too many towns), down the Cali coast to Fort Bragg, and in to Sonoma to visit my Dad. Then south to Tom's house in Paso Robles because his rear Z6 is toast. Pics to follow when I get home. Tom and I had a great time hangin' and ridin' with you guys. Wish we could have gone all the way, but judging from Chris' bike we really had the wrong bikes for the job anyway. Link to comment
