flattwin
I've just crested the 6,000 mile mark on my 2005 R1200RT (all the miles have been great fun) and am taking my bike in to the dealer for service next week. Aside from the routine items, what "extras" should I remind them to do? My temp probe has not been relocated and (no surpise) reads about 10 degrees high all the time--is the relocation worth it? I also get the low oil warning when the site glass is about half full--did they ever come up with a fix for this, and does it work? I have had the brake banjo bolt replaced and the fuel lines checked per the service bulletins, but that's about it. The bike has been trouble free so far and I don't want them to screw it up, but I do want to make sure I get all the latest fixes (that work) while I am there. What am I missing--anything? Tapatio
Have them check the rear seals. My bike started "weeping" oil but I didn't notice until 12k. It could have been leaking for quite a while. This thread covers the subject in great detail. Leaking seals Link to comment
JayW
They will probably upgrade your software, which shouldn't cost any extra. I assume your FD oil was changed at 600 miles, but if not that should be done. I haven't moved my temp sensor either, but it is accurate some of the time. The low oil warning light comes on as you describe, and I am not aware of any "fix" - just adjust your interpretation of it. Jay Link to comment
John Bentall
Relocating the temperature probe to the front fairing has no real effect. As soon as the bike is stopped the heat soak from the engine pushes the tmeperature up by 10 degrees or so. I've just returned from holiday in the Austrian Tyrol. It used almost no oil on the freeway but did when I was screaming up and down mountain passses in second gear for half the day. This information about your personal machine is far more useful than the oil gauge in the dash. My bike has 21,0000 miles. Link to comment
flattwin
Thanks for the advice so far...Yes, I've had the bike in for the 600 mile service and an oil change at 3300 miles previously. Sounds like the seals are the big things to watch and that the fixes for the annoyance items (oil level, temp) either don't exist or are not worth it. Let me know if anyone has any further thoughts--thanks! Link to comment
