drjay
Anyone have any experience and photos of a Givi E52 top case on a 2002 or so RT? Is the passenger pad comfy? I have a Corbin seat and back rest that my daughter and wife likes; is the Givi pad a step backwards? Thanks for the help. Link to comment
moshe_levy
Here's the Maxia 52 on my fiance's '04 R1150R The actual topcase is leagues above the 33 liter BMW model I have on my '04 RT. It is enormous, of excellent quality and robust construction, looks good, and the integrated brake lights are the icing on the cake. The backpad is fine. I would suggest you spring for the ~$30 nylon bag liner, which fits inside the Givi precisely and takes the guesswork out of "what's gonna fit." Best of all, it's about half the price of a large BMW topcase... -MKL Link to comment
motoguy128
I have a V46 topcase which uses the same backrest pad as the E52. I plan to mount the pad and rack after I get the adapter plate (shoudl arrive today) for my R1200RT. My wife wears a padded jacket and even wihtout the backrest, she enjoyed being able to rest against the case. I agree the GIVI cases are a great case for the price. BMW wants over $800 for their 49L topcase. I like the saidcases function and overall fit&finish, but the materials are a little lightweight for a topcase. The plastic seems more rugged on the Givi and it easy to overfill and squish closed. My taillight module quit working brunt out after 3000 miles of use. Moshe... I have a set of throttle meister bar ends from my R1150R (traded-in on my RT) that I won't fit use on my 12RT. I ultimately didn't use the throttle lock function, but they are great looking SS bar end weights. They took out a lot of the vibration from the bars. PM me if interested. Link to comment
Motorrad4fun
I have the 46 and find that the case works fine without the pad. I asked my wife and gave her the choice, she said it feels better without the pad.... Link to comment
Aluminum_Butt
Well, I have the E460, not the V52...and a GT, not an RT. Nevertheless, here's a picture (sorry it's not a great shot of the case): I can't compare it to the Corbin backrest, but the Givi backpad is a heck of a lot better than the BMW back pad. The Givi is about 2" thick and a lot softer. The Givi case is a lot more functional than the BMW case for the 1150RT, too. Mine will come very close to holding two fullface helmets, but not quite. The only downside to me is that you have to install the Givi rack. It's not quite as attractive as the stock BMW rack on an RT, IMHO. If your RT happens to be Piedmont Red, the Givi candy apple color is a nearly flawless match. Link to comment
moshe_levy
Moshe... I have a set of throttle meister bar ends from my R1150R (traded-in on my RT) that I won't fit use on my 12RT. Thanks - the previous (original) owner of my RT already put those on for me. I love 'em! -MKL Link to comment
keithb
Jay I have the E52 case with the Givi pad on my 05 RT. I had to remove an inch of padding (thickness) to make it comfortable for my wife. The original thickness was pushing her forward. Foam removal is easy and takes no time at all. Link to comment
Ebbo
I hope these pictures are of some use, they’re part of a cancelled project (sadly the bike was trashed/run over/killed ) Givi E52 Maxima top box fitted to an 97' 1100RT: Close up: From the front: Interior view: Givi E183 rack from below: Givi E183 fitting kit: Personally I think the Givi E52 is a terrific topbox, loads of space inside, easy to use, very light in weight and with the E183 fitting kit, very secure. The only problem <in my opinion> is it seems to mount around 1” or so too high on the bike, but you can live with it. Sure wish I had that old RT, its was a smart bike (and paid for) Link to comment
keithb
I really like my Givi case as well. Very well made, functional, holds a bunch of stuff, and works great as a COOLER after a long day or riding. Yeah baby!! Link to comment
tallman
Love the GIVI. Wife likes the backrest (updated a couple years ago to a softer one). I replaced the BMW rear rack completely with the GIVI system that mounts metal support arms to the side of the bike. Much stronger and rated at twice the weight capacity of the BMW one. drjay
Thanks for all the pictures. My bike is a similar blue also. They're pretty fast! Link to comment
memaus03
I have the Givi 52 litre topbox and a Corbin Seat. You would be able to use the Corbin back rest if you wanted but I think the topbox backrest would be more comfortable long run. I have used the Givi back rest pad which is quite thick. This is not an issue though as I am sure you will have noticed that the Corbin seat results in you being slightly further forward, unless your pillion decides to sit on top of the top ridge where the Corbin backrest would have gone in. We have found it to be very comfortable. I have to admit to failing to understand how anyone could have designed the BM top box in that shape and thought they were doing anything useful. Something we also found was that we both have system 5 helmets and whilst the smaller Givi boxes indicate that they accommodate two full face helmets, it is only this top size 52l one that will accommodate two System 5's. Good luck, you will not be dissapointed. Get the bag liner as well, it works great for those trips away. Link to comment
