Oil Cooler vents

Hi all.

Do you think that the hand warmer(?) vents that duct air from the oil cooler, have any real effect. Does the change over lever effect things much. The hot air still gets into the fairing whichever way.

If the hand ducts do work, would it keep more hot air from the riders' body?

If that is true - that would be good.

Finally - can the ductwork and changeover lever be fitted to the 1150?

Cheers

Andy

I never thought they made much, if any difference. maybe that is why they decided not to put it on the 1150. Maybe some had better luck with it, but I never did.

They don't do much when it's really cold. Sadly, that's when you really want them.

They do add quite a bit of heat when it's hot and you have the ducts adjusted wrong.

When its cold out.....I don't think they do much to help

When it is warm out......They will absolutely cook you if you have them set wrong.

because of that I kind of decided that they have 0 pluses, and 1 BIG minus.

To answer your question....

When the lower vents are closed, the warmed air is routed up behind the speaker grills and towards your chest, effective around 45-50F on up. When it gets colder the oil cooler shuts down to help heat the engine so the air does not heat up as it passes through.

When the lower vents are open, the heated air that passes through them is directed out past the side and away from your body.

Really? I thought the vents closed meant a cooler body. Vents open = warmer body. I'm so confused! confused.gif

They always vent, so they are not ever really "closed." The flapper simply sends the warm air either through the speaker grilles (as mentioned) or through the lower and wider-spaced vents that would be in front of the glove box on either side.
