yempaul
I was on a short trip up North to Malaysia( I live in Singapore ) when i hit a small pothole. It was dark and raining. Visibility wasn't that good. The impact was great enough to cause a broken hinge on my right panniers and a slight dent on my front rim. More concern was on the ABS lights. Tried resetting ABS but lights continues flashing. ABS system functioned well when tested. Anything else i need to do? Suggestions? Link to comment
George Brown
Check you battery and connections. When battery is not fully charged the ABS system will not set itself. I have an electrical leak (discharge) on my bike. If I let it set for 4 or 5 days the battery will be too weak to crank the engine. Hence, I keep it on a battery tender when not using it. I've been connecting the battery tender through the accessory plug and I have noticed recently that when I start out on a ride the ABS will not set. Rather than solve this problem, I manage it by disengaging the clutch while decending a long hill about 3 or 4 miles from my house. With the clutch disengaged I turn the ignition off and on. Then I restart the engine by engaging the clutch while coasting in 4th or 5th. Usually the ABS resets its self after this procedure. If it doesn't I just ride a little farther and try again. Usually within 5 or 10 miles I get it to reset. You don't really need a hill for this procedure but, I would caution anyone against performing it in traffic. Someday, I will hook up the pigtails that came with the battery tender directly to the battery and see if using them solves the problem. Link to comment
cheesewhiz
If you hit hard enough to dent the rim, you may have compromised the wheel speed sensor. Just a guess............... Link to comment
yempaul
Less likely it's the battery. Got it replaced bout 6 months back and i ride the bike everyday to work. ABS sensors perhaps? Link to comment

Have you bothered to find out what error code is being indicated? My hunch is that you have cut the wires in the front sensor somewhere. If you disconnect the sensor, you should read 135 Ohms at the connector. With an Ohmmeter hooked up, wiggle the wire all the way from the connector to the sensor. You'll probably find it. PAZ
The ABS light haunted me for a long time. The OEM BMW battery was only 2 years old but it still went bad. I have since (one month ago) put in a Westco and my problems are gone. I know you said that the battery is only 6 months old but they can sometimes be damaged by strong jarring. If you have access then I would try another battery or have yours tested before you waste alot of time troubleshooting the less obvious. Link to comment
flars
"ABS system functioned well when tested" I don't know what you mean by this. Check the front sensor wire. It travels quite close to the front fender, and it is possible the wire has been damaged. Link to comment
GordonB
If the ABS is funtional during a sudden brake..... Check this... The flasher relay in the fuse compartment may have jiggled loose when you hit that bump. Give it a good tug and reseat it firmly. Mine was loose and drove me nuts for two weeks Link to comment
yempaul
Guys ... thanks for all your inputs ... All is well now. The rear sensor was the culprit. Lucky me parts was easy. Dealer is only 5 minutes away from home ... Link to comment
