outpost22
Has anyone used this GPS I like that it can be used with topo and offroad riding. Is this unique or is this a common feature? Link to comment
Stan Walker
Pretty common. Many Garmin GPS's support TOPO and Streets, some even throw in Marine usage. See the 60CSX unit for a great example. 16 hour battery life is the norm on 2 replacable AA batteries for hiking usage. That way you can hike all day, replace your batteries in the evening, and hike some more the next day. Just try and find a recharging station in the middle of a two day hike.... IPX4 water proofness rating is borderline for motorcycle usage and not good enough for back-country. Drop your unit fording a creek and you are toast unless it can be submerged. Most Garmin units are IPX7 (30 minutes at 1 meter). Stan Link to comment
outpost22
Thanks Stan. Good to know, especially about the waterproofing ratings. Link to comment

Stan Walker
+1 Garmin 60CSx I don't have the 60CSx, just the older 60CS. It gets used whenever I go hiking, and sometimes when I travel by air. Great little unit. Stan Link to comment
tomk99r11
I used a 60CSX on a dual sport ride of the Continental Divide. Worked great with an expanded memory card. You can get a 2 gig card for around $20 if you watch for sales. I liked the electronic compass as well as the waterproof aspect. Handled the vibration of rough terrain very well too. I also have a Garmin V and an eTrex Legend, both of which work well. Garmin really is hard to beat, altough there are some good competitor units available. Link to comment
