Bob Palin
Sounds like it is time for Ohlins, replace both front and rear, it's better than getting a new bike! Link to comment
chat_vmax
is there a pocedure link out there...?? Link to comment
mistral
I have a 2002 that that I got recently. It only has 7K on it and the shock makes the same noise. It also really dives between shifts if I get on the gas. I had a hard time believing the shock was bad. I see no adjustments on it like the back has. Ron Link to comment
tobyzusa
Like Bob said. Ohlins at 29K turned it into a new bike...better than when it was new. Link to comment
Ken H.
is there a pocedure link out there...?? It's pretty straight forward, bolt in the new ones the way the old ones came out. You have to slide back (but not remove) the tank a bit to get to the front top bolt, but that's the biggest part of it all. Link to comment

Ron I just purchased a 99RT with 6000 miles and my front shock feels the complete opposite.. .it is stiff as hell. I feel every bump or defect in the road. I had to soften up the rear shock so my RT wouldn't ride so rough down the road. I'm going to borrow another shock and put it on to see if its really the shock. I can't imagine anything else being wrong up front as the bike has never been down or in an accident. Link to comment

Is the OP asking about a procedure to check the original shocks as opposed to installing the Ohlins? Link to comment
chat_vmax
im looking for a procedure to check the shock :-) also a low dollar good replacement source for a shock and a after marker [ ohlens ] to compare consider purchase,, thanks much Link to comment
tobyzusa
Ohlins and low price don't go together in the same sentence. Nevertheless, try Kyle Racing at (866) 667-4925 . Link to comment
Mr Pou
im looking for a procedure to check the shock :-) also a low dollar good replacement source for a shock and a after marker [ ohlens ] to compare consider purchase,, thanks much Other than checking for leakage at the seal, the only indicator of dead shocks is degraded suspension performance. And, at 24kmi, your stock shocks are no doubt whipped and tired. Sorry, but the BMW stock shocks do not last very long, I replaced mine at 25kmi, but I could have done it sooner. Most here are high performance riders, and thus turn towards the high end shocks, Penski, Ohlins, Wilbers, etc. There may be some mid-priced choices, check to see what Works Performance and Progressive Suspension offer. The cheapest way to get back into business is to check here or on e-bay to see if you can buy a used stocker with lower miles from someone who upgraded suspension early. Link to comment
