Axe
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wife and I went to visit her sister and husband on their boat today, about 100 miles one way mostly rural two lane roads through small towns and acres of growing corn. Perfect day for a ride, high 70's low humidity and clear blue sky's. The trip up was uneventful and we had a great visit, around 2:00 we headed back. About 30 miles into the return trip we are enjoying a nice section of long slow twistys with corn fields almost right up to the shoulder on both sides of the road. For some reason, I don't have a clue why, my alarms starting going off I just knew something was about to happen. I slowed down to about 30 MPH and turned the radar up to full gain. Sure enough not 30 seconds later I see the corn moving like someone is running through it. Yep, you guessed it, Bambi jumps out not 50 feet in front of us. beautiful doe, takes one look at us and high tails it across the road in front of us. The wife says through the intercom, how did you know there was a deer there? I just shrugged my shoulders and motored on. I guess you just get lucky once in awhile. For some reason wildlife jumping out in front of me is a big fear of mine. Around here we have a large deer population and they are active this time of year. I hit one in my car a few years ago, now you would think 5000# car 150# deer, car wins no problems. Well the results were 1 dead deer, $4000.00 worth of damage to my car, including a broken windshield with part his leg sticking through into the steering wheel. I don't want to ever think about the consequences of hitting one on a motorcycle. Someone was watching over us today!! Link to comment
Firefight911
Glad to hear!!!!!! It amazes me how that 6th sense kicks in from time to time. It is so important to tune in to it and pay attention while we are riding. 'Going with your gut' has saved me many times. Thanks for sharing! Link to comment

Assuming no correlation between you riding through the cornfield and Bambi jumping onto the road, if you had stayed at 32.27mph, Bambi would have jumped out 50 feet behind you. Sorry, I just couldn't help it. Link to comment
dancogan
Wow! Sometimes we just have to listen to our intuition, even if we don't know why. Link to comment
JayW
You could call it intuition, but given the circumstances it sounds like divine intervention is more likely. How many other accidents has He saved us from, many of which we were completely unaware? Thanks be to God for his protection! Jay Link to comment

Jay So, by inference, it would seem that "God" was okay with 'letting' all those other poor riders get hit by deer or a head-on driver or whatever else. If one is to give a mystical entity credit for fortunate events as this post is describing, then one would have to hold that same mystical entity accountable for the tragedies that bring tears to our eyes and that we hate to hear about in this forum. Is 'God" okay with those deaths/serious injuries? This couple (and the deer) was fortunate. The writer/rider had the good sense to slow down in an area that, based on his experience, had a higher probability of deer traffic. That's it. Anything else is attributing causality in a superstitious and--to those families/friends of those who have passed--sick manner. Sorry to be so skeptical and rain on delusions. I am pleased that these two were unharmed and will be able to ride on for many miles. Link to comment

Your comments raise some tough questions, but I am not delusional. Read the account again. The writer does not describe the usual cautionary slowing in a high risk area. He immediately slowed way down because of a strong urgent impression to do so before there was any apparent danger. I don't know why God allows others to hit the deer. Who are we to understand the mind of God? If we did, then He would not be God. I have heard it said that if there is a God, then He has some serious 'splainin' to do. God does not explain himself to anyone, and it is arrogant for us to try to hold Him accountable to mere man. I had a similar experience to theirs in my car once, and am convinced that God saved me from a terrible crash. No other explanation seems adequate. I thank God for that intervention, but He may not do it next time. Still, I trust him with my very heart and soul. I find this sort of experience fascinating to ponder. Jay Link to comment
