co_g30
Hello Trying to figure out the size tubing I need to buy to build one of these cheapie manometers to do a throttle bottle sync on my 2004 R1150RT: link to manometer Can someone who's built one for an RT tell me what size tubing they used? tia dom Link to comment
daveinatlanta
Got mine at Home Depot. 20 feet of vinyl that, as I recall, was stamped .170. It fits fine. Link to comment
ninermatt
I used the same tubing that you would use on an aquarium, fits perfect. Link to comment

I also use elbows at the tops of the main U tube & put some sort of restriction (like piece of Scotch pad or cigarette filter) where the .125” meets the .250” as that kills the wild gyrations from the vacuum pulses.. Try to keep the vacuum leads close to the same length also (while it’s true vacuum is vacuum no matter the length at least the standing wave will be the same so you will get somewhat even & matched pulses on throttle up.. DrPaul
I made one of these to balance the throttle bodies (TB) on my 2002 R1150RT. I used 1/4" polyethylene "swamp cooler" water line. For fluid I used Dexron ATF as it is red and easy to see and the viscosity dampens the column oscillation. The tubing fits perfectly on the TB nipples. I put a simple valve on one arm of the circuit for an "off switch" in case a sudden change in the vacuum gradient. I just joined this forum and would post some pics of my manometer but I'm not sure how to do that. Good luck! Paul Link to comment

mrduck
We just used one of those "red neck manometers" yesterday-see Redbrick's post- and they work great! We had a twinmax we checked with first then tried the "redneck" version next and the homemade one is much more sensitive. One quater turn on the BBS (big brass screw) was equal to about two inches on the scale! Try it,you'll like it! Link to comment

Figured whichever was the wrong size I'd use for something else later on. Then rode over to friend's house whose manometer we used on my RT yesterday, compared both tubing to known good tubing and for my 2004 R1150RT it's the 5/16th tubing. Thanks to all who responded. RFW
Whatever fits. Tubing diameter is totally irrelivant to the actual operation of a manometer. Link to comment
Redbrick
I used 1/8 I.D. tubing, about 20 feet of it to give some leeway in positioning the "instrument" when it's in use.... But whatever tubing sticks to the nipple without air leaks will work.... .....And I do recommend 2 Stroke oil....I got Valvaline at Kragen and it's black; very visible and also pretty cheap.........
