Membler
What do I need to hook up a radio to my Autocom Active Plus? I would like to add a push to talk button on the left side of my bars or is there a better way to hook everything up. I have the unit running out of my tank bag. Are there better choices as far as brands of radios to choose from? Link to comment
Mr_Ed
Autocom favors Kenwood and ICOM FRS and GMRS radios. You can contact the folks at Autocom for the appropriate connection cables. Link to comment
Aluminum_Butt
It is rumored that Autocom has compatibility issues with Midland GXT radios. Link to comment
dancogan
I use my Autocom with a cheapie Motorola walkie talkie. My wife has the other one in the motorhome. The connecting cord and push to talk buttons came from Autocom. Works very well. Link to comment
airfin
I was ready to spend hundreds on the kenwood talk free but decided to research it a bit more. I ended up getting a set of Motorola SRS/GMRS radios (sold in pack of 2). I ordered the PTT switch and the appropriate cable from PTT switch to Motorola radio. The switch comes with wire ties to wire tie it to the left side bar. At 1am last night I completed the install. I with 2 self rechargeable radios, i can use one and have the other as back up if I run out of juice. Last but not least I will carry one set of back up batteries. If i go through all those - the I and the people I am with need to stop talking and enjoy the ride! Its and easy install with easy to use parts. Really shop around for radios and decide what is best for you...not what is best to make someone elses look worse. Link to comment
