zbiker
Mention the name Cape Hatteras and most people think of stormy weather. I determined to find out more about the remote island just off the coast of North Carolina. With a map, a few notes gathered from researching on the internet and my old 1981 BMW R100 RS motorcycle, I set out to explore the island on July 11, 2007 in an effort to learn more about the islands history and culture. http://www.kittyhawkfreepress.com/capehatterasride.html Link to comment
johnnash
Very informative posting about the "Outer Banks".My first time there was in 1988 on my first BMW,R100RT.I rode from Toronto with about 10 friends to the Canadian Hole so they could do some wind surfing.I owned that bike for 16 years.I've been back there several times since, from my home in Maryland now. keithb
AHHHH. The Outer Banks. One of my all time favorite places to visit, explore, and just hang out. I have surfed it, hang glided it, dived it, fished it, but never ridden a m/c there. My sister lives in Morehead so we go to that area most every summer and I have been going there for 4 decades. I am a lighthouse lover so it does not get much better than the coast of N.C. for lighthouses of all sizes. Still can't get my arms around the new location of Hatteras Lighthouse. Just not the same after climbing the stairs and looking south to the point for so many years with the ocean on the left. I am glad they saved it but it still looks out of place where it is now. That whole area is just chock full of history. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
jbr7t
Great article. I have made many trips to the island but I haven't had the opportunity for a bike trip yet. I am hoping to get one in soon. Headed down the first week in August but will be caging so we can fit the coolers and gear. Link to comment
