bowcop
Hi gang, I just bought a 98 RT with 26xxx miles on it. It just had it's level II done at 24K. Since I'm new to Rbikes, what are some potential problems that I might encounter with this bike. It has been VERY well cared for by the gentleman that I bought it from. (my previous bike was a k100rt. Just wondering if there are any spare parts that I should plan on buying ahead of time and keeping with me. It is all stock except for the windshield, corbin seats and Remus muffler. Thanks all! Link to comment
wolcott
Hello, Bowcop: I have a low-mileage '98 also (25K) and the thing that gets me nervous is the HES (hall-effect sensor) wiring which tends to disintegrate over time. You can do a search on "HES" and there should be quite a few posts on it. In fact, there is one related to it right below your post, I think. You can get ahold of BMW Mick (fellow board member) who can set you up with an upgraded wiring harness. Link to comment
bowcop
Thanks for the reply! Any idea of what that HES would cost? Link to comment
Steve_Witmer
I seem to recall it is about $265 new from the dealer. Try beemerboneyard.com. They frequently have them for less, or you can try replacing the wiring yourself (it's not usually the sensors that fail, but the wiring insulation, which apparently is not well enough shielded from engine heat).
