Huzband
Last October, after El Paseo, the Wife & I spent a week in Maggie Valley, NC. While there, we visited Wheels Through Time . I had the pleasure of meeting, & talking to, Dale Walksler, the curator of the museum. They have an exhibit entitled "Women in Motorcycling". I told him of my Mom being a Motor Maid in the 50's, & that I had a photo of her on her "K" model on Daytona Beach. He was very interested, so I told him I'd bring a copy next time up. Well, last week, while on my BD vacation, I had the opportunity. Before leaving, I had copies made of my Mom & Dad. On my BD, the Wife & I made a return visit to the museum. We ran into Dale inside, & as soon as we met, he remembered us. I told him I had pictures for him, & he was anxious to see them. The pic on the left is of my Dad, circa 1947, in Front Royal, Va., on his '36-'38 45. I had the time period down, but Dale, in his expertise, identified the bike. His knowledge is truly amazing. On the right is, of course, my Mom. The photo is on Daytona Bch, 1952. She is on her own "K" model, which she had ridden up from Eau Gallie, mostly known as Cocoa Beach. Dale told me he would gladly put the photos on display. It makes me very proud to know my parents are represented in such a fine museum. I know that when I go back, & see them, it will be a very emotional experience. I encourage everyone, when given the opportunity, to visit this extraordinary museum. Link to comment

KevinH
Dale Walksler is a class act. My friend and I chased him down the highway while he was riding Excelsior on his way to the gas station. We could not keep up. I'll look for your photos next time I'm there. That was really nice of him. Link to comment

Chunky
This is just reinforcement for my habit of never riding without my camera. I got this photography bug from my parents, immigrants from Germany, who used their roll film Kodak box camera to capture our youth. I recently had to rebuild my online photo albums and discovered what a chore that could be. Which ones to put in, which ones to leave out. Great ride report & photos. Link to comment
Firefight911
Now that is an awesome tale! Good on ya, Danny! Link to comment
roadscholar
That's great Danny. Dale is a nice guy and a real enthusiast, I'll look for the photos next time I'm at the museum. On another note, I noticed in The Motor Maid book that Mrs. Allman ("Mama A") was a Motor Maid. In the mid-sixties we used to go to her house in South Daytona and listen to her sons (Greg and Duane) jam in the living room. I'd bet your mother and she were acquainted. Link to comment
casticus
Dale is a great guy. We stopped in last year and he gave us a personal tour of the place took us to his workshop showed us pre-production video on stuff they were working on for the website and then he offered to let me ride his WWII prototype Harley Davidson shaft drive, foot clutch, trike!!!! I came up with the right answer in about 2 seconds....uhhhh yes! Link to comment
Richard_D
I wonder if your mom did any stream crossings on that bike. Link to comment

deejones
Motor Maids rock. I just did a 9000plus mile ride with one out to the annual convention in Post Falls Idaho. I met Shawns cousin Dottie West, and aunt Bettie. She said to tell you hello, Shawn. Also Gloria 82 years young road her bike from New Jersey to the convention. Thanks for posting . I'm sure Dale was glad to get the photos adding a little more history to the history of motorcycling. Link to comment
