Autocom - Is it broken or did I not set up properly?

I installed my Active Plus Duo back in April on my Nolan 102 NCom and my pillion's Nolan J42 NCom.

It's been working like a charm ever since but only when I'm alone. By working like a charm alone I mean, regardless of speed:

A) No false keying of mic

B) Music plays fine, but is suppressed if it talk, caough, or (God forbid) sing crazy.gif

But when I have my pillion with me, I get false keying. At first I thought it was my pillion's mic but I have found it is predominately my mic that been causing the false key.

I have the headset volumes set well below mid-range. Last week before my 1000 mile roundtrip, I adjusted the VRS pot per higher per the instructions.

The problem actually increased (up to 80% of the time at speed) and also got wose in that it was very difficult for us to key the VOX circuit when talking as we normally have (noticeable at lower speed when not in false key mode). We had to really over-emphasize all speech to keep the Vox circuit keyed.

If the VRS had the opposite effect on voice keying, I would have concluded that my plugging in both mics was simply changing the load/impedance of the vox circuit. But the VRS seemed to operate as advertised.

I have tried to mic in different positions, all vents closed, faceshield open & closed, windshield up or down, all with no effect on the false keying.

Is this normal?

OR

Is my helmet just this noisy? If so, why not when I'm alone.

Any suggestions? crazy.gif

Several possible causes. First, be sure that you are connecting your headset to the rider lead (it's the longest lead coming out of the Autocom box) and your passenger's to the second-longest lead.

After that, make sure that both mics are touching firmly against your lips and are positioned absolutely perpendicular to the direction of your voices.

Third, ride solo and turn the passenger volume completely off. Adjust your VOX sensitivity this way. Now turn up the passenger volume so it matches the rider volume and go for a ride with the passenger aboard.

Do these things and then send me a PM with your results. I'll follow up with you and when we get it sorted out, we can post the solution back here.
