Look Ma, no wires! - J&M Bluetooth

Being the early adopter that I am I decided to try J&M's new bluetooth headset. I also integrated it with the R1200RT stereo system via their bluetooth dongle. It works great! I can simultaneosly listen to music, get phone calls and talk to my passenger. The VOX between helmets requires a wire and overrides all other signals. There is also an adapter cord for GPS or radar detecter.

In order to connect the dongle to the stereo you will need a line level adapter. This will convert the speaker signal to a stereo RCA signal. I purchased a 2 channel converter from Pep Boys for about $25. The rear speaker outputs are ideal and allow you to fade between headset and speakers. I tapped the power from the fan. This provides switched power so all I have to do is turn on the stereo to start the bluetooth adapter.

I installed the dongle on the top of the stereo box. This provides a strong signal and does not intefere with the CD player.

So there is still some wire coming off the helmet(s)?

Yes, only for passenger communications. I commute daily and only ride occasionally with passenger so it's not a big deal. If it was the other way around I might have considered a traditional Autocom/Baehr/J&M solution.

Any chance you could pass along the part number for the 2 channel adapter you found at Pep Boys? I've been by my local shop and they just scratched their heads when I tried to describe it to them.

Thanks!
